Stop moaning and groaning. Every talks about wanting "BB center cartridges" and "stock location" turbos, and when a company steps up to the plate, everyone *****es. Let's wait and test these things first before the pissing starts.

The ad claims it's a bolt-on turbo. Wouldn't this make it "stock appearing" since you don't have to use a different manifold, o2 housing, intake, etc. I believe that defines it as a stock appearing turbo rather than what the turbine housing looks like (which you can barely see when its installed).

Anywho I'm very interested in seeing how this turbo performs. I like to autoX so I'd love to having something that can spool faster than the stock turbo yet still make more power.

Hoping someone takes the plunge or a reputable shop gets one to test and gives impressions.

The GT3071R setup is more impressive though, looks like maybe that housing is good to 450 WHP or so and 6000 RPM before it calls it quits? We shall see...
I bet it's the stock exhaust manifold choking it out; putting on a nice stock replacement tubular will probably aid spool/response/power. I'm thinking the GTX3071 would make for a damn fun street car with close to 500whp.

I agree...if the tests were done with at least a ported exhaust manifold, ported tb & intake manifold...there probably would have been some nice gains...

After seeing some good results I plan on purchasing one...but can't decide on the gtx3071r or gtx3076r...I will be using a Toxicfab tubular manifold & 02 dump...the car mainly runs 93 oct and is still stock block with full bolt-ons...

In the DSM world, we've had turbos that are "bolt-on" but not "stock appearing" ever since the 20g came along as the super huge, never put this on a street car, race-only option.

id like to see the GTX3582R tested. that one seems to be the one comparable to the fp black since it claims 700hp.

+1

These turbos seem really nice and all but they seem a little too good to be true. Only time will tell...

Did everyone miss the boat when it comes to getting a BB stock replacement made?

Buy an HKS 7460 done for 1800 or... send a FP or CBRD turbo to Owens Development and get it converted to BB.

Those are more or less...direct replacement stock turbo's. This is an abomination comparatively.

HKS is a great company, but I don't feel like they knocked it outta the park with the release of the 7460 (atleast that's my opinion). With the assortment of turbo's Garrett has to offer us now, I'm hoping this gives us another good bolt-on option w/ some technology improvement as well. You know Garrett is gonna be reliable, so I'm more worried about how this new bolt-on housing will perform and fit. Down time shipping and higher foreign currency rate is a big turn off with the Owens Development option for me, plus reliabilty of those turbo's is limited knowledge in this neck of the woods, so who know's. I'm just happy more turbo's are out really

A Ball bearing CHRA handles axial loads much better than an oiled bushing... there's your reliability.

The Garrett stuff (GTX included) has been less than exciting. It really has a mildly better compressor wheel than its predecessors... and the same terrible turbine housing.

Not to mention the cost of having to get LICP's and Intakes made to fit the new Garrett "stock" turbo. Once you're all said and done... 2100+200+200 ~ 2500 and possibly more to get it installed. And that's if the factory oil feed line, coolant lines, and return work with the turbo!

When you compare the costs of getting an FP or CBRD turbo upgraded by Owens Development (which has been doing motorsports conversions for some time now) you're either spot on or cheaper with the BB upgraded FP/CBRD setup.

I see really NO benefit to running any of the Garrett series turbochargers offered for their Evo stock replacement series. You can do better.

If you want to take a turbo and make it work on the Evo... might as well do the BW EFR setup. Would've been at least a huge step forward in terms of technology. (save for the terrible turbine housing)
