pulling driver's axle from 6 speed trans (WTF?)

I have a 2006 MR, 6 spd, with a leaking driver's side trans to axle oil seal. I have everything out (axle free from hub) and cannot get the axle to pop out of the transmission. I am using a pry bar between the inner CV housing and the trans housing and it will NOT budge. I've pulled axles multiple times from different cars and never had a problem like this.

Am I missing something here? Do I need to remove something else (magic retainer bolt?) to get the axle out, or do I just need to have some Wheaties for breakfast and have at it again???

no magic hidden bolt maybe your C clip on the end of the axle is just stuck, and making you fight it. Try doing even pressure pry by using 2 pry bars, or 2 really big flathead screwdriver to pop it loose. using them on opposite sides of each other that is.

thanks, pretty much as I figured. Dunno why this is giving me such a hard time; I'll take another go at it here in a bit. The axle will move at the trans ~3 mm if i push it in and pry it out, so it's definitely not totally seized in place.

I did mine a while back and I think I ended up having to smack the pry bar with a dead blow hammer. Go to step 25;

I managed to get it out on the second go-round. I used a pry bar that I could strike on and put a small steel plate on the trans case to pry against. The HF pry bars with the plastic handles just wouldn't do it this time although that's what I've always used before.

I used something like this and struck the side of the pointy end with a hammer.

The cross shaft also came out of the transmission but I got that removed from the axle with no trouble and will put it back in. Unfortunately, I received the wrong oil seal from mitsuparts.net so the car will sit on jackstands for a while until I can get the right part. Bummer.

ya you just give it a quick jerk and they pop right out. glad you got it out. no need to remove shaft from axle but doesnt hurt either.

your car was def worked on before if the shaft came out with the axle.

i take it you never pulled an axle out before after saying something like that

he had trouble pulling an AXLE out not an output shaft.

Glad you got it out. Sometimes it helps to rotate the axle a bit to give the c-clip a different orientation then try prying on it.

no, it has never been apart before this; I bought it new. taking the shaft out makes it easier to install the axle as I have the hub still attached to the strut.

Since it was up in the air I spent xmas afternoon changing brake fluid out
