Clutch install went bad, does it make sense?

Hey all,

I just had a comp clutch stage 3 installed in my evo 8 at an area shop that does a lot of work on evo's and dsm's. while on the lift the car was running and shifting fine after the install. Once on the ground and the car attempted to move its own weight something happened. The mechanic who performed the work said it was most likely the clips on the pressure plate that went bad. He said it was an unfortunate design characteristic of the evo clutch and that a small percentage of the clutches are bad from the start.

Im just wondering if it is a fairly common problem that is possible to have gone wrong, or if it may have been an install issue.

If it was a defect in the pressure plate, will i be fully responsible for paying the install charges for 2 clutch installations?

Thanks

I'd suggest you start out by having your mechanic try adjusting the clutch pedal.

Agree with Milford I'm thinking the retaining clip pop off or even broke. When installing clutches on evo got to be so careful with that when putting the tranny back in just a little touch of that clip it will pop right off. Gl on the fix I would go back to the shop and have them fix it seeing how they install it!

Thanks for the replies guys. Im hoping its as simple as the retaining clip popping off or something like that. The car is actually still at the shop. When it was to be pulled out of the bay something failed instantly.

Im hoping that when the mechanic starts pulling it apart he notices something minor went wrong. I really cant afford to be without a car for a few weeks, let alone paying for a second clutch install.

+1 i think it was a install error not the clutch the mechanic probably banged the clip loose when putting on the tranny but every good tech checks that before putting the car completely back together good luck with that. hopefully you don't pay for that labor 2x

With that clutch the only way it would pop off is with an install error. Do you still have the stock clutch line?

The car does still have the stock clutch lines.

This is my first time using this shop and its been on my mind all weekend that an install error may be passed off as defective parts. we will see what happens tomorrow

Thanks again
