If your worried about a CEL and want a proven performer, get the Buschur w/ a Magnaflow. Order it with a test pipe, and you wont get a CEL even without a cat.

I've got the exhaust and I'm loving it.

Just FYI, I have been running catless now for over a month and have never smelled any fumes. It's been no different from stock IMHO. I have on a few occasions sat at idle for long periods of time listening to the radio.

My Benz (with the Random Technologies Stainless High flow cat) however, was a different story. Yep, I could smell that one in no time at idle.

As I recall regading the outcomes of the exhaust comparison, the Perrin is the system he left on the car. Hopefully, Al will read this thread and chime in.

Yep, Thats me Eric, been around the exhaust block a few times. Thing is, none of the EVO exhaust vendors seem to have *true* high flow cats like the Subaru world does. Now personally, I think the emissions for the environment is total crap, but unfortunately the state of Colorado does not agree.

I did not realize the Perrin cat delete came with a CEL fix, that makes a difference to me, but still, its illegal and I'd rather not do it. I DO remember some of the stuff that happened in the WRX world, though... a bigger downpipe definitely made a difference there, even if there was a cat behind it. Why would this not hold true here as well? Im guessing that the length of the headers and the size of the turbo on the EVO are going to impact this as well.

i was there for Al's catback test. he lost 8hp going from the RMR to Perrin but he kept the Perrin because of the fit and sound.

JaMa,

Stop thinking WRX! diffrent anamial. For example a peak tq or VE the EVO will run at most 4 to 6 degrees of advance were the WRX would run a much as 15 degrees at the same CFM/or boost from a smilier turbo. Also the turbo is much more effective because it's right off the mainfold and Garret/Honeywell states that 70% of turbo energy is from exhaust heat. With the WRX and the long Header/uppipe combo it would lose allot of heat before it got to the turbo.

So run the biggest piping you can find. Again straigh throw 3in muffler.

Also the exhaust on the EVO is not as loud as it is on the flat four. Perrin, Vishnu, RMR or AMS would all be a good chose for exhausts. Also look at Ultimate Racing's cat delete with a bung in the cat delete to not trigger a cell if you feel like you don't want to wire anything.

My Best welcome and congrats on the EVO.

Eric

OK, Im new here, but just got a new EVO and I'm already in the midst of trying to make a decision between 2 exhaust systems.

Its either a Perrin catback and downpipe or a B&B catback and downpipe. At this point in time, Im planning to keep the factory cat for smell and emissions reasons, but I am going to be putting on extensive modifications otherwise.

I have heard sound clips of both systems and they sound the same, and I dont really think sound clips are a good way to make an exhaust decision anyway.

So, my question to the board is this: For some more flow, better power, and not too much more sound (Im an old fart) which of these systems is the better choice? I would just like a few opinions.

Thanks

JaMa
Buschur is running a sale on their turbo back exhaust.... It seems to make the most power. It comes with a CEL free cat delete or you can order it with a 3" high flow cat.
I've seen a car with that exhaust and it made tons of power Others will not come close. If you are worried of noise, have them add the Maganaflow muffler. I have a 3" cat back with Magnaflow (not Bushchur ) and it's very nice, not loud at all, but not the power of Bushchur either.....

Am i correct in assuming that its best to only do a catback if you want to keep the stock cat?

Yes, you are right, but....... Why do you want to keep the stock cat? If you want more power, it looks like the cat delete or high flow cat + the turbo back is the way to go.......
