Factory ICS (waterspray) and roadracing

Hey guys,

Just curious about this one as I watched a guy tune his 8 last night and he's set his waterspray in V7 to come on at a set boost pressure/load.
It was a hot arvo/night in the 90's and his spray ran out during the tuning, he did 3 pulls with no waterspray and there was knock starting to appear.

What i'm wondering has anyone logged the difference the cooler water spray makes? I've started to road race, and as you know the heatsoaking can get pretty extreme, for the road racers, is it a thing you use much?

Just that i pulled my cooler spray tank out last month to make way for a nice 6inch cold air feed to my airbox i'd made up, but i'm now thinking of throwing a tank in the boot and hooking it back up.

Cheers.
Ben

Back when the car first arrived to these shores the magazine writers made two runs through the quarter, sprayer off and sprayer on, and announced the sprayer does no good. And hence, that has been gospel.

The trouble is, the factory coding for when the sprayer is on is such that it almost never is on - with the factory defaults the sprayer is inoperative. So, the magazine writers test is no test.

I've been a reader of this forum for several years and I've never seen results of any reasonable testing of the sprayer. I'm sure it has been done. Somebody needs to post up their results.
