Head gasket options for 2.4L Mivec

I'm currently running in to problems in my build. I am building a 2.4l Mivec motor and i install a OEM mivec 9 head gasket. while inspection it i noticed that the gaskets edge protrudes into the cylinder. Is there a specific head gasket i must use or do i have to cut out the extra gasket that is sticking out into the cylinder? the bore is 87mm.

You will have to go with the 4g64 gasket, or get one like ams makes.

I would go with the .040 gasket in the link below as opposed to the .051

The cometic HD sucks. The Cometic we run holds up to 48psi and 1050whp. Mine has had no issues at 750whp. The AMS modified stock one fails at 39psi, the PE seems to fail over time or rev limit induced but it burns the fire ring out.

Its not the gasket so much as the prep. If the block and head prep arent right it doesnt matter what gasket it is in it, it will fail.

Cometic sucks, I'll agree with that for sure. I've never seen an AMS gasket blow unless the tune was off enough to torch the head too.

Is the Cometic you run the same one I posted the link in, in post#4?

Well thats why I said some of the Cometic sucks. Look close at Cosworth EJ25 gaskets...you might be surprised who actually makes it.

+1..

Ran the AMS in the Bastard down to 9.3's and lets just say it was DEFINITELY over 39psi..

I have heard of 3 separate ones fail at 39psi. I know well enough that tune is very important, rev limit abuse, timing, AFR, etc. They modify a stock fire ring though and the smaller that gets the worse off it is over all.

The 1G runs 11.3:1 compression and 48psi on Q. Cometic has held up to every bit of abuse we throw at it until a nitrous fuel solenoid fails in duty.
