If you say that you use it for drag racing, you need maximum power up top - use kelfords or gsc s2, at least. Both of them will show bigger gains and open up at high rpm better.

Old HKS cams would be good for a totally stock engine, wanting some gains over stock, favoring smoothness in low rpm and minimum idle lope. Otherwise for a totally stock turbo\engine for daily driving with broader powerband I would go kelford 264 or gsc s1.

As for me, I've been using old hks 272 for a long time with 2.0 stock evo 9 turbo and liked them very much. Than I swapped to kelfords, lost some smoothness and torquiness an very low rpm but gained peak torque and something up top. I am still using them on my 2.3l. I also used kelfords 264 on a stock evo 8 with a 3" exhaust with geat success. They felt almost as smooth as old hks in low rpm, gave a broad powerband and showed 370whp on VD(DynoJet) and 320 whp on real Mustang Dyno on a good conservative mapping. I liked them very much. I haven't used GSC S1 on 4g63, but they should be really nice cams and show similar gains to kelford 264.

Hks vs kelford

Thank Guys for helping me i will take the kelford 272 on my evo.. The disadvantage of kelford 272 is the rough idle but is it good for daily driven street the 272? im quite confused if 264 or 272

A lot of people who consider themselves DSM/EVO guru's have become really mad once I posted this info lmao. No one knows everything and you learn something new everyday. A cam could advertise more duration and could possibly have less. So this is another option for those who want to make the cam comparison easier and more accurate before hitting the dyno. This is for a Evo 8-9. The numbers are used as a reference to convert the intake/exhaust duration e.i. @ .050 lobe lift: 211.5 to universal specs on a cam analyzer. The breakdown speaks for itself.
4g63 Camshaft Research: The truth shall set the tires free!!

It gets really good when they get to the Evo 9 FP4R cams on the cam analyzer. Here are the advertise specs of the Evo 9 FP4R version 1 & 2. You can compare them to the specs of the 1st link I posted.

I will say this. I have to give props to Darren at FFWD. He is the only person my machine shop and I have ever seen that posted the true specs of cams on a site. I would get comments my cams were Kelford 280 or Fp 5r regrinds or clones so no one would really buy them. But the specs were right there on the cams page. Most just didn't understand the specs. Here is the exact cam analyzer format Darren had for the KING KAMS on FFWD's website (I purchased the last pair of these cams). With all the info he gave one could have easily copied these cams. So I blocked out all the info except the intake and exhaust valve duration @1.00mm lobe lift. Number wise compare it apples to apples to the applicable Evo cam analyzer durations @ 1.00mm in the first link I posted. Then compare it to the evo cam durations @ .050mm and understand the @.050 number is always much much higher lol.

Update February 2014 dsport magazine just did a breakdown of evo cams. They tested and dyno'd them. Once it hits the store shelves I recommend you go cop it!!

I know of a certain project in the works that just might prove to make the STM 650s and Buschur 280s look like a set of hks 264s............ All details arent finished yet and shop hasnt become a vendor on here yet but I do have to say the future looks promising for high HP guys

Update on Tomei cam specs, here is a link to effective durations @ 1mm and .050" for all Tomei sticks.

I noticed the 280 and 290 exhaust cams are almost identical .5 degree difference?

Hello. First of all really nice thread and a lot of info.
In my DD Evo 9 (2.3 stroker,PTE5858,Cosworth Mivec Head etc) I have Tomei Procam 270-11.5mm in/ex. I am looking for better spool and a bit more power at top end. Which cams are better to go S2 , S3 or R2?

My current plan is stock evo 6 engine and turbo. Walbro 255 fuel pump grimspeed 3 port solenoid, 3" stainless turbo back 100 cell hiflow cat amd plazmaman spec r full piping kit with cast turbo outlet.

I am putting the gsc s2 cams in with hks springs. Opinions?

s1 would be more appropriate for that setup and would give wider powerband.

I have already bought a set of GSC S2's but i'm changing to the S1's to suit my setup as I now realise. Anyone keen on this brand new set of S2's for a brand new set of S1's if I can't switch them over with the place i bought them from?

Aka who wants to trade my brand new GSC S2's part number: (6008S2) for some brand new GSC S1's (6008S1)
