Benefit from just DP and TP?

I'm wondering if I would still see benefits if I only replaced the DP and TP with 3in models. I wanted to try and keep the stock cat back to keep from getting harassed by cops. My IX MR is completely stock.

Just replacing the cat with a TP will give you gains.

I think doing the DP would help, even with the stock catback, just not to as much as a full TBE.

You will still have the bottleneck at the stock muffler.

Why not get an electric cutout and leave the stock cat-back?

Best of both worlds right there.

I was thinking cutout, too.

I had to run my Talon twice with open downpipe. Wow.

I asked this question just recently for the same reason. I'm in Irvine CA

Anyways minimal gains apparently but would spool quicker. A guy on my thread said he netted a 7 hp and 8 tq gain with a 1hr gap between installs

turbocharged cars like to breath , the less restriction the turbo has the more power you will make in the end.

Because it's a pain to tune with that set up. Think about it, tune for cut out closed, tune for cut out open, tune for e85, tune for 91. It's a pain. Basically, if you want to use the cut out open tune, you need to flip a switch every time you open and close it.

I just received this in the mail the other day. I'm almost done with the install. I will get some pics and post them up on here when its all said and done. I'm sick of having a loud car, and to me this seemed like a good option. While it isn't cheap, it should work very well. This starts opening at 5 psi and is fully open at 11 psi.

Yes, you will see gains from a dp and tp. You can get those tp's with a fake cat cover if you're worried. You can keep the stock catback, but you'll gain more from a full turboback.

I called a shop and they said that just a TP and an Intake with a tune would give me 60 wheel horsepower. That's not too bad! I'm thinking about going with the DP and TP only set up. I mean when you are pushing 450 to the wheels, I'm sure not having a cat back isn't going to make much of a difference? So anyway, that's my little project I guess. To make 450 to the wheels with the stock cat back. The only thing I'd be worried about is some sort of crazy back pressure that messes up the engine or turbo. What do you guys think?

I used to run just a 3" TP and DP with the stock cat-back for a while after taking the 3" CB off and I like it a lot. My new set-up is a 3" DP, 3" TP w/ a QTP electric cut-out welded on and the stock CB.

So what did you notice as far as power difference with and w/o the catback?

Can't tell you, my Evo hasn't been started in 3 years and the car has never been on a dyno. But the setup was just my personal preference regardless of power. It sounded great and didn't draw much attention.
