Do you think I did any damage?

I was driving to work this morning going about 60mph and suddenly the car jerked and cut off. I pulled over and took a look in the engine bay and find that the intake pipe had poped off. I was worried because it was raining and I was hoping water or rocks didnt get into my intake manifold. I reattacted the intake pipe and the car seemed to drive fine except that it idled at 2000rpm and kept bumping up and down. Do you think this could be the computer adjusting? Do you think I did any damage?

Thanks

Intake pipe......You mean the pipe before the turbo? If so, your turbo will let you know of damage before the rest of your motor will, especially if you think you picked up rocks.

If it was the upper intercooler piping, right before the throttle body, then you probably have nothing at all to worry about.

Either way, the high idle and then idle surging is the ECU trying to relearn. If it is still doing it, then try disconnectiong the negative side of the battery for about 10 minutes to blank out the ECU, then reattach it and start it up. It will probably do it again, but let it sit and "warm up" for a few minutes, then drive it around like you normally would, letting it finish learning. Once you are back to feeling comfortable with it's daily driving characteristics, try a couple of WOT runs in second gear just to make sure everything is sorted out.

Unless, your daily driving is nothing except WOT runs, which would make your daily driving style very much like mine.

Hope this helps.

No prob bob. If something got in there you would've found out right after you hooked it back up.

Yeah looks like its ok now. I disconnected the battery and it seemed to relearn pretty quickly and run smooth again.

Dont think you have anything to worry about. The MAF wasnt giving the right reading and the car cut out. All should be well as long as you keep the piping together

this EXACT thing has happened to me approx. 8 times ever since about the third week i had it, the IC piping fastener comes loose and the IC piping comes off, and the car kinda stalls out. I took it to my local dealership and they were no help, they just tighened the flange and sent me on my way. It was good for about 3 months but just last week it happened again, i took it up to the dealership again and they retightened it. My best solution, carry around a screwdriver in your car because if its happened once it will happen again.

BETTER SOLUTION, if its a constant problem just throw on some T-bolt clamps, it will never pop off again
