Built evo act hd street vs 6 puck
Lock out in ACT clutches is caused by improper adjustment. Look on YouTube for a video by Jack's Transmission on how to properly adjust your clutch.
...screw it, here it is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYJxQyjIhUw
If you still need more adjustment after adjusting to the max point, take out the clutch rod between the fork and slave cylinder and cut off 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch, round out the end with a dremel before re-installing it, and PRESTO! No more lock out, or notchy clutch.
I've had my ACT MB7-HDSS for over two years and 30k miles, with many launches on it, and it works great still.
If your clutch is still notchy after the above has been performed, it was installed wrong, or you've been driving it around improperly adjusted for too long and you need to replace the disc.

Over 37k hard miles on my ACT unsprung 6 puck with a Fidanza flywheel. No problems with the clutch at all but my input shaft bearing is starting to make a bit of noise in my 6 spd. I am just gonna ride it out till I pick up a built 5 spd. Not sure on the clutch I will go with when I put the 5 spd in though...
sorry for the late reply...
if your making any serious power & faced with traffic or hills, i suggest staying away from the act sprung 6 puck clutch.

This is what i sent to act.
This is my HDG6 clutch disc failure with ~18k miles.
I have been using a mb7 pressure plate, hdg6 disc & your prolite flywheel.
I daily drive my evo & have never been to the drag strip or launch my car with this disc.
I just enjoy my car; while driving through the twisties on my way, to & from work.
it makes ~600whp & ~525wtq.
I have used your hdss disc in the past on my stock motor with great success & had zero issues.
Here are 2 pictures of the failed disc. Besides the puck material coming off, the main problem was the plate that is raised & minimally supported by the 4 pedestal's is the culprit. As the plate is cracked all over, while the other side is fine....maybe the rivets allowed that plate to move / flex / distort.
I was then told by act "the reason for the fault was excessive launching &/or high rpm down shifting!"
ummm, then why would your website recomendthis for street use & roadracing if it cant handle it???
btw, my oem gearbox has over 71k miles on it!
Here is a quote from act's website for that specific clutch:
Spring Centered (6 Pad) Disc
Recommended for Road Racing and high power Street, Increased torque capacity and spline life, Very good durability and good spline life, Quiet operation, reduced driveline shock
NOW, i do like their HDSS disc. i had this prior to my engine / power upgrade & after this disc shyt itself on my way to work, the only disc available @ that moment to me was my old disc with ~15k miles. Now this disc holds 500+tq just fine, despite only being rated to 480tq. granted this disc does shift slower than the act sprung 6 puck, while using the same flywheel / pressure plate.
GL on your decision.

thanks for the reply! and do you think I would be fine on a built 2.0 with the am 35r on the hdss? how did you like the 6 puck as far as grabbing gears?

it was a little better than the hdss, but i didnt go past 8k on my stroker...
the clutch didnt slip prior to the steel part of the clutch failing....
if you want to put in a ticking time-bomb, go for it.
at least with your twin, its slipping & telling you its time for an expensive adjustment...that sif oyur having someone else R&R'ing the tranny.

I have about 1500 miles on the act 6 puck unsprung clutch and love it . Back to stock like pedal pressure. Did have the loud harsh engagement but that's quieted down almost completely.
if you like to drive you car and you actually drive the car everyday and the car see's stop and go traffic stay far far away from any puck stye clutches.
if you want to hold more power get the extreme pressure plate with the street disc
or you can fork out more $$ and go twin disc. The proplem with twin disc clutches is yes they hold a lot of power and the car is very drivable but the clutches do not last very long.
