CBRD "F1" Evo Manifold... yep different
hey Chad,
Do you use any internal baffles in the intercooler to help spread the air over the core?
Do you see any problems with running the hot charge air into that end tank at 90degrees angle?
Is the inlet in the middle of the intercooler, or at the bottom?
Cheers, Mike

We have done fmic's with baffles and so no measurable gains. These tanks are 100% symmetrical with the inlets and outlets in the middle. No I'll affects from any of the routing and this piping is about 4.5feet shorter than a normal configuration evo!!

I think the manifold is cool and all but by adding more length don't you suffer high major loss and with the addition of multiple bends minor losses? How does this perform any better than a regular tubular manifold?
The sound is unique and loss of spool is minimal to none.
Actually the sound is sick and so is the power band. The response off boost is amazing.
I was thinking the same thing but now that I have driven the car I do not agree that it would make a car laggier. Also car will go all the way to 8800 rpm so whatever is lost down low is made up for in mid and high range. But again there does not seem be any loss of spool down low compared to all the 30 r kits which have been tunes at the shop.
;-). Manifold is highly recommended If u like for ur evo to sound like a r1 at 12k

Considering the car has a 30r style compressor wheel it's working pretty well to be close to 500whp on our dyno. The car was making 445whp/350wtq at 24psi flat.

CBRD or the OP will have to post the dyno plot with boost curves to answer the question, but that information does not appear to be forthcoming. From my experience the long runner manifolds flow very well at high rpm and do sound great, but generate additional lag compared to a short tube design. This is not an issue for actual "F1" applications that target usable power bands above 9k rpm. For me personally I would run the manifold because it looks great and would make peak topend power.

On the flipside, you have racing series where a max power output is specified. In which case, boost is targeted to come on has hard and as fast as possible. With a 350hp limit in wrc, the cars actually experience a very flat hp curve that hits maximum horsepower at or before 3500 rpm. The torque curve spikes super early and drops off enough to allow the hp to never go above or below 350 all the way to redline.
For a street car, i preffer the latter.
This car will be a lot of fun on the track. I like that you're are able to keep the front bumper support. Nice tires and suspension as well!
Are you using hood pins to secure the hood down?
Would definitely like to see an in car video of it driving on the road and track and watch go flying down the road.

I'm sure someone has asked you this by now, but why is the car still running stock ignition? You don't think there is anything to be gained from a coil on plug set up?
This is one of those turbo kits that are going to stay around forever. It'll pop up on the forums ten years from now and people will still pay a premium for it.

Chad, what XR1 muffler model do you have? I actually just made a thread about the muffler that comes In the standard catback because looking at it from the inside it looks restrictive. What are you experiences with Borla Mufflers? I was thinking of switching to a Magnaflow to be honest.
