CBRD "F1" Evo Manifold... yep different

Here is a post about the long runner manifold we've been building that everyone has been asking about.

We basically wanted to build a longer equal length runner manifold with a 4-1 collector for a road race car. Originally we were going to use the internally gated EFR7670 Turbo, but it was hard to get (even with great help from Geoff at full race, thank you sir)..

So we went with a proprietary turbo that our friends @Blouch (of course) were able to build us..

The idea, over long 40-60 min runs on 93 or low octane race fuel.. we wanted nice flow... and a well balanced collector... The other idea a moderately sized compressor wheel (not even 54 lbs min) but a broad powercurve because of a special turbine/housing selection...

So here you have it... Here are some details of the build...

CBRD 2L Race Long Block
CBRD Custom Garrett Core fmic (longer charge rows than our production 3.8" core)
CBRD Custom 1.5" Dual Pass Radiator
CBRD Custom IC piping with Hargett 2 & 3 piece Quick disconnects
AMS Wet Sump Pan
CBRD Turboback with XR1 borla muffler and SS resonator
CBRD Long Runner F1 Manifold
CBRD 32RB turbo
and more CBRD stuff
PTE 1000CC injectors
3 port Pierburg Solenoid
Turbosmart 45mm WG (soft 13psi spring to start)
APS BOV

at 13.8 PSI today on 93 we made 322whp
at 15.8 we made 346whp
at 19.0 we made 402whp
at 23.8 we made 446whp and torque in the 358range...

The setup spooled quicker than any 30R (CBRD brand or otherwise) on a 2L that we've ever had on our dyno....

We are changing wastegate springs tomorrow and setting up the 3 port to energize both EWG ports to run more boost- to reach our goal of 465whp/370wtq at 26psi tapering to 25psi...

I will post some plots when all of the basic tuning is done..

Here are some pics..

From the final project back to how it started...

Thanks to our client Georgi Slavov, and my dedicated guys in the shop (yep, there are only 3 of us) Mark and Brent (our fabricator)..

Here you go..

the turn into the turbine housing, note the bracing on the bend- there is also a brace on the turbo to support its weight (even though its a lightweight SS Tial housing which is our favorite)

And some engine pics..

Ducting for IC/Rad with flush mounted power steering cooler..

and how the build started..

Same Radiator used on Evodans 9 second (attempt, but its coming) build...

Hope you all enjoy more coming

I was lucky enough to hear the first pull of this beast when I was dropping my car off. Mark told me that was only 13 or so psi. has that high strung race car F1 thing goin. I love it.

This pic is the business! Awesome!
And if you have coolant temp problems, you can duct the radiator too

Is the intercooler core angled for fitment reasons or the fact the changing air direction increases cooling ability?

We angled the rad/ic for clearance and flow , there is a diverter from the fmic to the rad.. And we are adding diverter panels behind the upper grill into the rad core

This will be a real noob question, but i'm sure i'm not the only one thinking it.

What is the benefit of the longer runner. I would have thought the longer runner would give more time for the exhaust to cool (probably very minimal) and have more area to pressurise which would both contribute to slower spool, not to mention the extra weight that this manifold would weigh.

With that being said, that really is some brilliant fabrication work. Always enjoy reading the new things CBRD are doing.
