Similar thing happend to me. Launched then snap..let out of it. On the return road got on it a little bit and it felt like the clutch was slipping. Turns out my rear axle snapped on the way home and was sprayin grease everywhere. So it must of snapped on the launch but dident completely break. It was having the same symptoms as a slipping clutch. Goodluck

 

That was exactly my fear at the drag strip. OMG my tranfer case is gonna be screwed. But I ended up burning the clutch a little bit as it was my first time at the strip and first time launching. If nothing seems wrong you should be fine just do a little check up when replacing the trans is you are going to do the 5 spd swap.
