Transmission issue, and/or transfer case?

So last night I hit the strip and did ok being the first time I launched the car since it was stock.

My 4th run I lowered the dampening in the rear and and dropped the clutch too quick and had a lot of wheelhop. As soon as I was getting my slip I noticed in decel my first gear whines.

Also accelerating in first gear is louder than usual as far as whining.

I'm assuming my tcase doesn't have any issues because I only get a slight high pitched whine over 80 and that happened after I switched my rear diff plates and put new bushings all around.

My guess is my first gear sychros are done and that's why it's making that noise.

I'll be draining it Sunday to see what goodies I find.

Thanks
Anthony

1st whining is infamous issue with evo 8/9. I personally never seen evos that don't have 1st whining. It might depends on what clutch/ built trans and stuff, but if the whining is acceptable for you, then it will be fine.

The accel whining is slightly louder than stock now but it's the decel that concerns me.

Anyone else?

I've got it too, it's the syncros. There are a few threads around about it. The wheelhop hammers the coast side of them and they start whining super loud.

People have continued to drive the cars with zero issue, including making continued passes down the strip (some were reporting 50-60 with no change in feel or sound). I've just gotten used to it and only notice it anymore when people comment on it. It still downshifts into first like butter so until that changes I'm rolling with it.
