Black Smoke+ Low engine response

1st post.

I have an '06 MR - stock

recently the car just died one day. I took it to a shop and the mechanic said that they replaced the ecu and checked the wiring. Also told me that someone JB Weldded the oil pan and it has a leak.

I got the car back and it runs fine.

I check the oil, its at the Full level, then I drive it yesterday and notice that the car has a throaty sound and get loud at 4,000 RPM, kind of sounds like VTEC in a honda. I notice the strange sound and moments later. POP! and the car bogs down.

I pull over and the car is still running. I put it in first and rev it up, I drive it back home. It can only go up to 2000 RPM with full throttle. I slowly get it back home and thats where it is.

I started it up later and a friend says there is black smoke coming from the exhaust. WHen I push the throttle the boost peaks to 0 and then the RPMs go up to about 2,000.

Any ideas where to start? I am not going to back to the mechanic.

Bring it to a reputable shop, not a general mechanic.

Way too many things could be potentially wrong with the car from what you're describing.

Sounds like a coupling blew off but like Tiago said, take it to a reputable shop...There are plenty in or around Chicago...

That "pop" happened to me and your almost describing the same symptoms of a popped off intercooler pipe. Check the throttle body, end tanks on your intercooler and the other joints that make up the path.

You guys were right on! It was the Intercooler piping, I bought a new clamp and tighteed it up on the throttle body.

I have another problem. As I am driving and I hit +10 psi of boost , it shoots the hose off the TB. I tightened the clamp as much as I can. Any idea how to fix it? What would cause that to happen? is there some sort of built up pressure, or back pressure?

Sorry for the noob questions, I am coming from a bunch of Honda Preludes.

Goto Napa and purchase a t-bolt clamp. Worm gear clamps are garbage. Also make sure you're placing the clamp right before the bead on the piping and not on top of the bead.

Agreed the worm clamps suck they brake and the teeth strip so easily. I would change all of them with T-bolt clamps and it will take care of that problem. I would also zip tie all vacuum and boost hoses.

Like has been said above get t-bolt clamps. Silicone Intake Systems has a pretty nice kit for evo 7/8/9 for stock licp, uicp,ic and tb sizes http://www.siliconeintakes.com/produ...0f1b7abb52718d It will pretty much get everything between the turbo and the throttle body tightended down. I had issues with my licp blowing off, and more recently with my upper pipe blowing off at the throttle body.

I ended up changing to an aftermarket hard uicp with silicone couplers to get rid of that problem, the stock rubber bits seem to expand way too much under boost.
