Pretty interesting project.

How well does this setup actually behave on the street? Sure, the idea of paddle shifters and clutchless shifting is cool, but autos and sequential manuals are nothing alike as far as engine braking and response goes.
Thanks, that makes a lot of sense, i didn't back up enough and reload the drivetrain. The lsd was probabley wound up..

Didn't want to thread jack, looking forward to seeing the results!

Agreed, but one thought to consider for what its worth.

For drag racing the converters will not have a lockup, for road racing or street duty it will most likely get left in but I feel the kind of people that buy this have one thing on their mind, drag duty. With a lockup engaged it is more like a clutch than a standard auto.

Walt its hard for me to say without knowing more about what your overall setup is. Low profile tires with lots of grip, a little wheelhop, traction differential left to right and then some bad things could happen. In my experience I lost the center diff before I lost the front LSD.

Also, I got word this morning that Andrew has the car back together and we'll start testing after the new year. My trans and the White Evo are sitting in line that is all I really have for now.

Absolutely on the drag duty side of this. There were just a few posts eluding to this making an awesome street car setup for something more then drag racing.

I'm sure you can make it work for other forms of racing, but it seems like the manual would be the better choice unless you have no other option.

Very cool as far as expanding the EVO market to those that may not otherwise be able to drive a manual car.

Will the drive shaft have to be changed or will our existing drive shaft work.

I can easily foresee this transmission, when it's worked out, being great for all types of racing/driving, not just drag racing. I like auto transmissions though, always have. I've never road raced with an auto. I think the biggest problem when using a typical auto trans in most applications is the ability for the trans to downshift when you don't actually want it to. For example, a typical auto trans on our dyno sucks. You want to dyno in 3rd gear but when you stab the gas it kicks down to 2nd or 1st even.

I just finished that '32 Ford project with the Evo engine in it. I put a TH400 trans in it, which is an auto 3 speed. I hated it. I took the trans back over to my trans guy, had him put a manual valve body in it. I absolutely LOVE the car now, the trans is fantastic! With the manual valve body you tell the car what gear to be in. You have to shift just like it is a manual but no clutch. If you stop and forget to downshift, when you take off you are going to take off in 3rd gear instead of 1st. If this option could be made for this project then you'd have a complete winner in my mind.
