Aaron how do you think are stock or tre12 plate upgrade rear ends will hold up to the auto swap and big power?

Greg,

Okay, I forgot there was a Legnum. Sorry about that

Dan,

I would presume the rear diff is a rear diff and doesnt care what gives it power as long as it gets it. That part is still a 6.5" ring gear so power will still break it.

I tried again and have feelers out for the EVO auto trans now actually, was going to put one in the RS and get it over with.

Nice work, looking forward to results and probably will have to get in line to just buy a completed kit from you guys.
Thanks a bunch Dave

Right now its trying to overwhelm it more or less stock and then do the slow process (hopefully faster now with the experience we have in Jeff's 1G) of making it work the way it needs to work for us at 800+whp.

I think everyone is jumping to conclusions on what power these trans will hold. If I were going to convert my evo 4 to auto after reading this thread the route I would take is convert the car to run early 4g63 engine and proven/dirt cheap (compared to evo8 layout) early auto parts. Thats my thought on this. Way more advantages. just thinking out loud here.

I realise that we dont know. They could be worse than the DSM for sure. Keep in mind the DSM autos were originally rated at 240 ft lbs and now they have motors making over 1100whp and 650+ ft lbs pushing through them (manual numbers) and staying together without slipping or breaking internals. The size of the shafts and hardparts and frictions are all smaller than what we are working with in this one.

It will be the same issue as with that one, friction/steel combo and the valvebody. I am being cautiously optimistic.

Aren't the earlier cars with the engine the other way around, so there would be a huge job to make that work?

You can see the mods I have in my signature and I've already been told that my box won't handle much more power. I haven't taken it on a dyno, but its no power house compared to what you guys are planning. I really hope you succeed, because I'm hoping that knowledge gained can be shared and used to strengthen my gearbox for when it eventually dies.

I understand the comparison but thats a completely different design to be fair. Also that suffers from the electronics not being defined as well as they have needed to be.

Man this is a really cool project. Looking forward to where this goes and seeing a drag Evo crack the 7's number.

Congrats on the accomplishments so far!

The Evo GTA and Airtrek both have paddle shifting, so its possible I would assume.

actually I was thinking of the the evo x manual drive train when I quoted this. the drive train is designed nice. its the metallurgy that sucks in reality. its junk compared to 4g63 counterparts. if the trans you are working with is made at same place you are in for a world of hurt trying to put power through it. just saying assumptions are the mother of all f___ups. I do wish you you fair well though.

I'm not sure how this unit works, but the most perceived strain on a street version would be the "on-boost downshift" [I think] on the torque converter. Say you're at 25# in 4th at 4K and hit the kickdown to third at WOT.

In the future I may be one of your customers here if this "solution" pans out and/or you provide a street package.

Awesome stuff. How about a DSG or TCSST implant.

The sportshift/paddleshift is something we are working on.

As Jerry pointed out right now we are more concerned with figuring out the limits of it stock then built. I am not worried about a full throttle downshift since the torque converter will handle the "shock" load with the hydraulic cushion between the turbine halves.

We are still working with it and will be through the winter. We are adding 2 more test cars in the shop so we can get a better idea of failure point and then upgrade one, kill the next, repeat.
