Rear axle stuck!!

Brought the car out on a cold night back in October.

Hopped' the launch, and BAM!

Felt like clutch was slipping, checked the rear drivers axle and there it was, a broken axle.

Well, I also noticed that when the car is in 1st gear there is an obnoxious whine, similar if not a tcase whine!?

I jacked the car, started removing the axle, and it's simply stuck into the diff now. Has anyone ever had this problem before? I have tried banging it out, and nothing.

I shouldn't have to remove the passenger side axle and hit it out from there, or do I?

Anyone have any other idea? I really hope my rear diff is not toast. Car has been sitting on jackstands for quiet some time now. This get out of work at 4pm and it's dark out is killing this job lol.

The whine you heard could have been the differential gears in either the center or rear differential spinning like crazy once the axle was broken. If the stub is jammed, no help there, it could be a battle.

Could it be hit from the passenger side, if I removed that axle, and shoved something long in there to hit it out?

The punch size is limited to whatever size the hole in the center of the spider is - I don't know the hole size. Otherwise - yes. I assume the hole in the spider is there for this exact problem.
