Hi i have just got my 1st Evo 4 and it seems to be making a knocking noise at the rear, its pretty bad noise, its only when I turn left.
Could my diff be buggered? How do you tell?
I have blown diffs in rear wheel drives they knock/clunk when turning left and right not just one way or just wont drive at all.
I read that the diff bolts can come loose could that be it, do I need to pull the diff apart to get to them?
It drives fine in a straight line or turning right.

Did you replace it or fix it?

 

It turned out to be the lsd inside the transfer. I got a quafe and was happy.

 

I drove in a friend's evo vi with rear lsd, it makes too much noise when turning

 

Clutch style lsd tend to do this.

My lsd was metal shavings transfer went bad.

Changed that did about 40 hard launches and zero complaints.

 

I installed my rear lsd diff last week and it makes a clunk when making a full u turn

 

Replaced one of my friends lsd transfer last summer....I never drove his but he had the same complain

 

I was doing heaps of left turns tryn to work out where my noise was coming from. It seems to be the drive shaft making the banging noise and i think its the center diff making it do it. Does that sound right?

I lifted the car up and had it running in gear and was stoping the wheels like it was doing a sharp turn the rear didnt make any noise.
I did notice one front wheel didnt turn as fast as the other side then it was just running in gear. the back wheels seemed to running at the same speed.

 

When I get round to pulling it a part ill put photos up of any damage.
