a vid would dramatically increase the odds of diagnosis.

Lifters or loose timing belt autotensioner/main tensioner

i havent been able to drive my car since early this year .... gotta love the military!!! i should be back sometime in december and be able to get more details. But when i left it was about 30 degrees and it only did it on start up which i would think with the belt it would do it continuously

No. It tightens up in a few minutes as the autotensioner fully extends

its lifters more then likely, my 03 does the same thing i run 20w50 in it, and for the first couple minutes till up at operating temp. It get a bit noisy then the noise subsides. But like someone posted before me do a vid and post it.

any zero tick lifters would be good, im personally running gsc's brand. my stockers about 8-10 k ago would start ticking real loud, and i was just on hks cams, so when i swapped to my s2 cams, i figured replaced the lifters, n lately all has been well.
I would say do those, but since your right there, if you havent done cams, I would look into buyin them too. Who knows maybe if you got the funds, talk to them @ GSC see if you can get a lifter set, cams and springs/retainer combo for a deal.
Good luck

Lifters I am willing to bet. Mitsus are notorious for noisy lifters.

For whatever reason mine sometimes ticks for a while after I change my oil. Its starts pretty loud then gradually goes away. I assume just the lifter pumping back up. If I get the oil level just right it doesn't do it at all. Its the weirdest thing ever.
