my built motor has 1,100 miles. Im using Bran Penn 30 Break in Oil right now. I dont no if i can get tuned on this oil. What does the 30 mean! ?-30W i dont understand why it just say 30! 30 WHAT?! Im thinking about going to brad penn 20-50w simi syn now. Just wanna double check n make sure im not doing that too early

I believe 30 would be the weight of the oil. So its actually a 30W oil. I would think 1100 miles is plenty for a break in period. I believe most people usually break in and switch to a different oil even before that. I still think you might want to get Tom's opinion since he built your motor. Every performance shop that builds engines has different recommendations on how they prefer to break in their motors, what oil to run, and when to switch to synthetic. I'm sure you'll be wanting to run a 20w50, but again ask Tom since the oil you run will probably depend on the clearances used when the engine was built.
I used the break-in oil for about 20-30mins on the dyno doing a break-in procedure then out it came. Get that stuff out of there.

Tom and I built the motor but what really matter is what the machine shop says that machined my motor. He told me 50 miles then the rings are good i was like ok Originally Posted by evilempire76

I wanted atleast 1000 miles to be safe. The machine shop said 20-50w and 10w-40 in the winter time.Quote:

what im trying to say is ive been flooring it on this oil idk if that is ok? another words i dont want the oil to be too thin and spin a bearingQuote:
yea im deff doing that. Heard nothing but good about them. Plus Tom uses it and loves it! And they are from PA! Originally Posted by CtSilver03Evo

This is what we do as well. We get the oil hot on the dyno and change it.Originally Posted by WHTEVO

Your machinist is correct. Honestly with the correct air:fuel and timing 50 miles is more than enough. At this point I have built more engines than I care to remember. I know 94AWDcoupe above has and will probably say the same.Originally Posted by 5LEEPERISAH23I

I used BP 30wt in 3 oil changes within 65 miles. I beat the hell out of the car doing a ton of vacuum pulls and 29psi pulls then switched to BP 10-40.

How is your engine doing now with the beat the hell out of it style of break in?Originally Posted by okevolutionVIII

16k miles of no problems and 165-170psi compression. Surely no one thinks that babying a new engine in the first few critical miles of break in is going to help seal the rings, reduce oil consumption, and keep good compression.
