Is it worth it to upgrade my cams at my power levels?

Hey guys I have an Evo IX MR it makes 460WHP and 400FP's at 29 PSI on a BB RED and basic bolt-ons. I run the GSC S1 cams, the original cams released not the revised cams.

What power would I make if I went S2 and retuned it? Would it even make a difference?

Thanks guys!

Your probally leaving 40-60hp on the table. It will move your powerband slightly to the right though. Will you be doing the install yourself? You have to weigh out the price of the cams, install and a new tune. I would do a few things at once if you are going to do it.

Keep in mind you will want new springs and retainers. So overall, minus selling your s1's, youre looking at 800$ without labor

i was going to say that 40-60whp is optimistic, but just re-read where he has the old S1 cams.

i was going to guess 20-40whp on the new S1 to S2,but i bet local is right now that i see you have the old version.i don't know specs, but i do know they all greatly improved.

it is probably worth doing if you don't mind losing 200rpm spool.

i also agree with local, check to see if you can take care of any other bottlenecks you have at the same time,so you don't have to do multiple re-tunes.

I agree with localtoys if the cost of cams and tune is worth the hp go for it or wait and do a few things at one time.

That is my dilemma. The cost is so much for cams, retainers, springs, install, and THEN a tune, looking at $1500. I may as well port the intake manifold too and even thing about a larger Throttle body. May as well change the timing belt too I am looking at 2G's then.

I would love to say I have 500WHP though, I guess I gotta go for it.

Just out of curiosity is your bottom end built? How many miles have you been at that power level? I am thinking of going with a similar set up. Thanks!

BUMP. My bottom is stock at 99K but My Evo has spent most of its life limping along in 6th off boost. Did it for 17 hours straight once to Miami.

I would do it all at once, with some other mods like you stated. Ported IM etc. Then the re tune is justified to me...
