Question Intake System Evo 8?

Hello,

I plan to change the intake of my Evo 8 to give a little boost for the turbo, but i really don't know wich one to choose between HKS, AMS and K&H.

Here the three intakes of my choice:

HKS Racing Suction Intake

AEM Short Ram Intake

Typhoon™ Air Intake System

You're help will be very appreciate .

They all pretty much serve the same function. I hear HKS makes poor-quality filters so I'd go with either the AEM or K&N.

I have the AEM and I don't know if it added any significant power but it certainly sounds cool.

an intake is an intake. go with the cheapest one unless you want the novelty of having a brand name on it.

They tend to fall apart and the filter material can end up going in your intake into your turbo. Not good.

How about the filter, i know the K&N is reusable, just need to buy the product to clean. And the AEM, need to buy a new filter every 3K? 4K? or we can clean like the K&N?

i really don't think the HKS has a poor quality filter......because my hks served me really well, and the sponge filter has a little better air-flow to it

Can we reuse the sponge (clean) or have to change every 3000 miles?

The only disadvantage of the foam filter is it dryrots after a few years.. Nothing you can really do about it..

Most of the other filters are oiled Gauze which works well, but cleaning and re-oiling takes a little bit of practice (You don't want to put too much oil on it)

I am inclined to believe all of them are more or less going to work the same.. But some may affect MAF sensor readings slightly which occasionally needs to be compensated for in tuning to avoid a lower RPM (3000-3500) Lean condition.

Usually the filters that claim large HP gains are the ones that can do that. Its something to be aware of, but not overly concerned about.

Smile hks intake

i do agree with most of you that an intake is an intake! i got the hks kit on my evo and i love it, the turbo pipe is much bigger then the stock plastic tube...the stock bov sounds as if it was an aftermarket...plus my brother "tweakdsm" has the cone and he admits that you get what you pay for...
