Apparently the customer could NOT stand the sound of the stock bov which was much louder through the HKS RS kit so he came back with his stock intake and K & N drop in filter 11 days later with the same exact mods expect the HKS RS intake
You can see that the car lost like 11 whp and 4 ft lbs of trq

A cotton filter (K&N) flows way better than the foam style (HKS). I had a AEM intake on my evo and fit very bad. The next AEM intake that i got and installed on a customers car fit great. The AEM intake is a pain to install becuase the piece that slides over the MAF is way to small. I just put a Typhoon intake on my car. The fit & finish is great. The performance part is bad. The best setup up I have used so far is the stock intake pipe, with the AEM adapter plate & filter. This setup works the best.
If you plan on doing future upgrade you may not want to go with a drop in filter and spend the extra money on an intake. Some other after market parts require the extra room from removing the stock air box. What everyone should do but probably doesnt is map out everything you want on the car first to make sure it will all bolt up together nicely versus having a frankenstein like car which requires modification to parts after they have been purchased. I am a perfect example. If you want to go with a buschur IC setup, then do not buy the KN Typhoon as I already had to cut/chop the CF heat shield. I needed to do this after I installed the small battery kit. Its pretty worthless now so I have removed the CF shield. Again, dont buy a BOV unless you would be happy with the 1G crushed that comes with BRs upper IC pipe. They will modify it for you to work with an aftermarket BOV, but it makes for more twisting/tweaking etc. Anyway, good luck at whatever your goals are.

my brother had the k&n typhoon and after installing it his car it was much slower. He then got it tuned and it was pretty sick but just doing the intake with some exhaust stuff made his car probably slower than a stock evo without tune. Also he said that when it rained or he washed his car the filter would be wet, he said he wouldnt get it again.
I've decided not to fiddle with the aftermarket intake setups. I did order this however, and we'll see what happens...

I'm hoping that it makes the intake a bit louder without altering the quality of air flow through the MAF (which upsets tuning).

I have the AEM intake and i defiantly noticed a loss of power when I installed it. The sound of the turbo and the bov was nice though. I went back to stock seeing as i would rather have the power over the sound.
What is a MAS?
What is a MAF?
MAS stands for mass airflow sensor. It is also sometimes called MAF, for mass air flow sensor. It is the assembly that measures the properties of the air entering the engine, consisting of three separate sensors.

Damn $140 for a cover. Looks good though but you could have probably made a nice one yourself.
