That is probably why your engine is blown. Nothing prevents detonation better than the stock ECU. Stand alones are an issue unless you are an expert and even then they aren't as safe as an OEM ECU.

However a 170MPH could be a failed injector at that speed but I am willing to guess a LEAN mixture, is piston 1 furthest from the fuel rail? Whil you are building your motor and even though you have a Wideband look into an EGT and place it on the leanest cylinder, that should help you melting pistons.

Got defi EGT, fuel pressure and oil pressure all ready to go in. I'm going out of my way to make sure it doesn't happen again but than again who knows. Thanks for the advice though I can't wait to have it all back together but patients is a virtue. I just wish I did the fuel system at the same time as the vpro.

in the event of an injector failing or the car not getting fuel somehow wont the car scream for dear life throwing a flashing cel, or is the OP's ecu not programmed with tephra? or wouldent the wideband lean out dramatically. my main question is was there a warning or did it just happen?

Read my friend!
He's not on stock ECU.
And if you are not reading Wideband output on Each Cyl, most cases you won't see much difference at the collective o2 housing (as in the case of stock ECU). The piston with missing fuel will continue to melt.

I read the whole thing i have limited knowledge in this subject and was wondering if the stand alone computer had the tephra feature or not, obviously its only for the stock ecu, Hence why one of the previous posters said the aftermarket computer was to blame, now I understand.

Some aftermarket ECU could allow additional inputs and you could have 4 different sensors (one for each cyl). It could be a lot more advanced than the stock ECU. But again, it is only as good as the tuner.

Like stated before piston 4 is furthest on the fuel rail and it's caused fuel starvation therefore leanin it out and melting it. Which was my mistake for not upgrading the fuel system how ever my injector resistor pack did poop the bed and now it's all bein replaced with high impedance injectors and a resistor pack delete which hopefully won't happen again.

Yea he said #1 mine was 4. Could be the resistor pack as well on his or it could be his tune. But I found another thread on here with a guy that had the same problem as me last year.

where in canada are you?

so are you just doing a built 2.0L? I had a engine failure too. Im saving and going to english racing probably. Im not gonna attempt engine build lol. Im thinking of a 2.4L. The cost difference is like $2,000 for quicker spool and better response.

Calgary, yea I'm keeping it a 2.0L, I'm going to find a different block and build it with the hks striker kit. It's cost me a arm and a leg so far but at least I got to hand pick all the parts I actually wanted not what already came in a crate motor even though the cost is almost the same right about now.

I am going to bet a lot on the tune. Just too lean and not proper knock protection.
