Basic (newb) Turbo Questions

I am always planning what I'm going to be doing to my EvoIX and coming up with turbo upgrades is one of my favorite things to do but now that is beginning to become a reality and I'm going shopping for turbos. I have a tomioka exhaust manifold. What is the largest (flange) I can go? T3? I would like a stock housing. I was thinking about getting a FP Green but the cost is pretty high. I have been reading about PTE Turbos on the forum and they appear to be more cost effective and people swear by them. I started out wanting a Tomei Arms Turbo but that faded.

I was checking out a PTE 6076E on Mellonracing. It should be able to help my setup hit 500 HP, it is cost effective, and the company is reputable. Of course I want a 6262 but unless it’s on a part out I will have to wait longer to save. I was leaning toward the Tomei because it is stock housing. Are PTE Turbos stock sized? How much work would it be to have one of these put in? I have an Injen exhaust system.

I also would like to pick up some GSC S2 Cams. My question is can I run these on stock turbo until I get a new, stronger turbo? I already have a Walbro 255 and I realize that injectors are needed but how big?

Please answer honestly I'm going to be saving and buying this stuff.

Hey man it's all good. First off though, you need to decide about what kind of power levels you want to make, and how satisfied with these levels are you going to be?

If you're just wanting 500hp then certainly get one of the FP series turbos mated to a Toxicfab manifold and you'll be set! Not necessary to think about the PTE turbos if you're only wanting 500.

Tubular manifold isn't necessary for 500whp at all.

I'd go with a fp black that's what I run and you can make 500 all day with just a ported exhaust manifold

if you want to think outside the box a little i have been very happy with my ATP GTX DBB 3582.......also i was running GSC S2 cams and beehive springs on a stock IX turbo w/o problems prior to building my motor.

i think he mentioned something about a budget,

op s2s are perfect for your goals, and rather than a black i would grab a stock ix turbo and send it into map to have them build it into an ef3 or ef4 depending on what fuel youll be using. oh, and send your manifolds out for porting rather than going tubular. like previously mentioned youre not even close to needing a tubular stock frame manifold at 500whp.

There are a bunch of options...really the sky is the limit for turbos for you. In terms of stock frame turbos...you could go either EF3 or EF4 (depending on your budget, fueling, etc) OR even opt, as Teacup suggested, to locate a stock frame 9 turbo and have us modify it to a EF3 or 4 spec turbo, although given the popularity of the 9 turbos, you may not end up saving a ton of cash going the upgrade route.

There are also stock frame Garrett turbos and then you can go all out and convert to a completely different flange type with one of our t3 kits, or vband kits, or even t4 divided kits. Realistically, tho...500HP isn't necessarily a lofty goal. If on E85, you could even make that on an EF3 but I would suggest looking to the EF4 for breathing room.

In any case, I am here to help, shoot me a PM

If your on a budget I would look into the EF series's I just picke my ef3 up from Nate at MAP and I've read amazing things as for injector size if your running pump some FIC 1250 blue max should be plenty I think there rate to 600 on pump.
As for cams you can't go wrong with some s2s an I've read they can run on te stock turbo with no problem. Hope this helps man good luck. But deff look at he EF 4 probably like stated above youll have some good breathing room at 500

That sounds good but how much psi would I have to run on that turbo to reach around 500 hp. I don't really want to have to have really high compression.
