Air Conditioner

Got a question. Hope this is the right spot to post. My car started making a funny noise like a grinding sound. It happens when my a/c is turned on. Once i push the button to turn off the A/C it stops. It doesnt make it with the just the fan on, Just the A/C. Would that be a compressor or the belt? Appreciate the help. I wanna avoid any issues before i do my Evo 9 Turbo conversion next month.

Well, my car at idle with the A/C on makes a rattle sound like a diesel truck at idle - always has. So, I think this is normal.

I suggest you buy an engine stethoscope (harbor freight) and check where the sound is coming from. Be careful around the belt as it can ****** the probe and pull your hand in. But, like I said, the engine with the A/C on can make some funny noises and this is normal.

Mine does the same. Not too loud, but you can hear it.

From what you are describing it sounds like an A/C clutch bearing... You can just buy the clutch I think from the dealer and make sure u shim it properly..

I thought of that too but the pulley bearing is running when the A/C is off. When the compressor clutch is energized the shaft turns with the pulley.
