Exedy twin-plate clutch or ACT hdg6

Hey I have 06 evo ix, with bolt ons right now but plan on going for 400hp in the near future but can't decide which clutch to go with for now. Price is a big factor but in the end with the Act clutch I'll spend almost 1k after I get a flywheel, so whats more reasonably? I DD the car but I do like to drive it the way it's supposed to be driven and I launch it quite a bit. What are your guys's opinions????

I strongly suggest NEITHER of those clutches. ACT has lockout issues that they haven't fixed. You'll see guys say they don't get lockout with their ACT but it happens. I've had the Exedy Twin...stay away from it. I do however suggest going with the Competition Twin if you like to launch the car quite a bit or you could even go with the Competiton Stage 2 street series clutch for something for comfortable to drive. Don't know your position on comfortable. Me personally, I like something aggressive. Here is a link to the new Competiton Stage 2 clutch.

And since you are concerned about price you can't go wrong with a Competition clutch. Best bang for the buck IMO! The Comp Twin is a couple hundred less than the best price on an Exedy Twin.

Spend a little extra and get twindisc you will never go back to a single plate clutch again. Exedy twins are very tame and easy to drive on the street. Comp just came out with thier twin but I do nt have any personal experience with it.

So I looked into the comp clutch a little bit how is the pedal feel? I like a solid pedal (stiff)

If you like the solid clutch pedal feel than the Comp Twin is the one for you. I've had the Exedy and the pedal is softer feel. The thing I like about the Comp Twin also is you can choose from 3 different pressure plates. Depending on your power levels go with the one that will suit you best. I had the "B" pressure plate rated for 650 ft/lbs of torque. Fairly easy to drive and HOLDS the power really well. And like I said, you can't beat the price. All 3 pressure plates are the same price.

Also, the Comp Twin converts your car from pull type to push type. No more worrying about the TOB clip breaking and causing a disaster!

On Paper the Comp Clutch Twin Disc seemed like the way to go. I bought one and had it installed. 3 months later its already done. And all Comp Clutch could tell me was that they think it was installed wrong. Car has never even been to the track and has less then 2k miles on since it was installed. and 800 miles was done with stop and go with no WOT pulls.

The pull to push kit can be installed wrong I guess and it will cause the clutch to fail fast.

The pedal was not that bad for a Twin Disc. It is loud and shatters a lot and also makes a weird growl sound when taking off. Some will say it sounds like Chewbacca screaming. They said its normal for this clutch to make this sound.

Anyhow I wish I had a better experience with this clutch. Now I am out 1599.99 + Shipping + labor to install it. And my car is slipping like crazy at anything over 20psi...

Since it has a kit to convert it the pedal will feel weird. Its not solid since the slave is now pushing a bar that is pulling the clutch fork. Its hard to explain it didn't feel like a 6 puck single disc that has the slave in the OE position.

i believe i read your post on someone elses thread also. ive done quite a bit of research just to buy a clutch but right now im leaning towards exedy twin.

ACT: has a lot of lockout problems, some say its because they were installed wrong but i have one now and i get lockout at 7k shifts, and i get the chewbacca noise accassionally 650 for a clutch 280 for flywheel

Comp clutch: im new to this brand but ive heard a few stories of them only lasting a few thousand miles, and a lot of people say they either love it or hate it
1550 with flywheel

Exedy: biggest complaint ive heard is price. 1500$ but it includes a flywheel

~400 tq doesn't need a twin disc.

My vote is an Exedy 05803HD clutch and MF04 flywheel (or OEM if you want to keep the inertia of the heavier flywheel), with that clutch being rated at 402 tq.

If price wasn't your biggest concern I'd say exedy hands down. I liked my twin until I got on track and realized it couldn't take my car's power.

I've had an act on two cars, including my evo, and I really really hated them. Cheap as hell to rebuild though.

Co experience with comp, I here both great and horrible reviews, specifically on street driven cars

ACT XT clutch DOES NOT lock out this is a very false statement by most people that state "ACT CLUTCH ALWAYS LOCKS OUT" we have installed this clutch in many EVOs and as long as you bleed the line properly and adjust pedal properly it will shift into gear no problem.

Customers car makes 501whp on ACT XT revving to 9000rpms daily driving and he never had clutch lockout.

so please refrain from posting ridiculous things like that.

I've had an ACT HDSS and an Exedy Twin... I did experience high rpm lockout issues with the HDSS, and between the two clutches I far prefer the Exedy.
