I would look into bolt-ons and a tune before thinking about a turbo. Look at the dyno sheets and that should give you an idea of where you would like to head.

Talk to STM, ETS, MAP, English Racing, Spec-Ops.

Option 1: First, be honest with yourself as to what you'll do with the car. Then, try to understand what it takes to do that. Most of the time, it's not mod-related but solely driven by the driver. After all that, start learning.

Option 2: Buy some parts you read about on the forum, have them installed, post a dynograph and some pics in Show and Shine, and upload a FS thread 6 months later and $10K into the sewer.

Narrow your expectations. Once you know what your (hp) goals and your desired use for the car are then you can get advise on what turbo you want. Start with normal supporting mods for the expansion for the turbo you want and a tune.

As for turbos,
short term:
-used ix turbo on here for like $400
-used FP white or a used BBK lite if you can find them probably around $800-1000. (some think this is a waste of money)

If you know you are reaching for more
-FP green or BBK Full
-gt3071, -76 or FP red or BBK-B
-FP Black or BBK-C
-also t3 flange or v band turbo kits (these choices are endless)

All can be made to work with the evo. But remember as you get a bigger turbo (adding supporting mods and tune as necessary) HP potential increases and turbo lag increases. If you are drag racing, this is a good trade off. If you are DDing, autoxing or tracking it then you should reponse may be more valuable.

This should fit in nicely between the short term and long term options (between evo ix turbo(68mm)/FP white (68mmHTA {~10%flow increase}) and the FP Green (73mm HTA))

Unbelievable. The OP has a stock car (sans the worse possible intake for an Evolution), and folks are discussing swapping turbos.

OP, this is the basic mod path for a VIII: fuel pump, IX DV, MBC, TBE and a tune. The tune is the most important part. It will make or break the car. Figuratively and literally. You may also want to dump the Typhoon for the stock airbox or just keep the filter. Good luck.

+1. if anything pick up a IX turbo on the cheap, but you have bridges to cross before just jumping into turbo options. are you looking for a strictly DD, drag, or road race use? theres a reason theres so many options available.

As FJF has said, the K&N is one of the worst intakes for the evo... since you are on stock turbo I would recommend going back to the stock rubber with the k&N maf adapter and filter...

You need to proactively look at a few things when deciding what route you wanna take with your car...

1. Budget... set one and try to stick to it, you can get sucked in to the modding thing real quick and blow some dough just as quickly...
2. What you are going to be using the car for... Daily with minimal mods, drag racing, auto cross... your desired use will determine which parts we recommend for what...

After you figure all this out, then pick a shop and go to town... More often than not, people will just start buying a plethora of mismatched parts that may or may not work well together to reach your desired goals, or buy stuff in which can be a huge waste of money...

If you need any assistance we would be glad to help you get the car to where you would like it to be!

Yup thats true but he asked a question I answered with "do this stuff (stuff you and I both already said) first then these are the turbos you can decide on" .

Its always annoying to me when someone asks a simple question and the people who answer give their oppinion about why its a dumb question and about what they should instead.

I figure if we can answer the question in addition to giving the sensible advise then he will have the knowledge later and others doing research who are ready to swap turbos before will at least have the info and won't need to start 100 threads about the same thing.

Some people may just want to learn about this stuff so when they have the funds and the car to mod later they will be able to. Thats how I learned about cars and its gone well so far.

Read the Sticky, "modding your evo 100 at a time." Its at the top for a reason.
