Evo IX Cams

Hello Evo M. i was looking into getting cams for my Evo IX SE. after doing some research i saw some threads about MIVEC cams snapping at the pulley and messing up the whole internal of the engine. now my question is how many people actually had that problem and is it worth the risk to put in after market cams? i am not looking for crazy HP i would be happy with 350-400 HP but i'm not sure if ill achieve that goal without cams. and do i need to change the springs/retainers and get ARP head studs for that much power?
you guys-es help would be greatly appreciate it.
thank you in advance

You dont need cams to achieve those hp goals, tbe,3port,intake,licp, tune you will get 320-350 whp.
Cams will not help much unless you upgrade the turbo. If you go turbo and cams i would do springs retainers and head studs.

Not so sure you can reach your goal on stock cams. Agressive as the MIVEC cams may be. Maybe the 325-350, but if you want to go 375-400 you'll need cams.
Any cam has a chance of snapping. I have a set of GSC S2 cams with GSC beehive springs and retainers waiting to go in mt IX. You only need to replace the springs if you have really agressive cams or plan on revving passed the stock rev limiter.
I have a similar goal in mind but am not installing ARP head studs. There are several members on here daily driving on 450+whp with stock studs with no issues.
Main thing you should worry about with that power is the drivetrain. i.e clutch, lsd and t-case. depending on how hard you plan on driving, and whether or not you want to track or drag your car.

Good luck

^ i dont think the cams will help much without a bigger turbo. Expense vs results i dont think its worth it. . If the head is going to be apart to install cams, might as well do the studs. There not very expensive imo. Im at 340hp on a mustang dyno,

I can throw links around too

There are a bunch of different routes to get the power gains you want. Just depends on what you want done to your vehicle.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have all the supporting mods. I did buy bigger injectors but haven't put them in yet. Not even sure if I do need the bigger injectors if I'm not upgrading the turbo. I do want to try to go E85 on stock turbo. I have RC 1200cc which I got from another member.

To the 6262 guy, of course putting a big turbo on a car will net big power.... Some people like to use their power band...
A turbo upgrade is not required to see good gains on a simple setup with cams... I ran the stock turbo to 400hp on meth...

Also to the OP its uncommon for cams to snap, and some companies havent had a set fail, or claim not to. If you wanna play it on the safe side get a used set of cams. If it didnt break when the first guy had em chances are they wont on you. Especially if it was in a build motor, i ran my fp4rs without issue on 2 different setups... With and without springs... On 3 different turbos... And can honestly say they are damn good cam's... 596whp isn't anything to shake a stick at...

I was just giving the op some reading material that covered cams. Your link was a good read, im still not convinced that cams without larger turbo are worth the dollar to power ratio.

I'm in that range without half of that. TBE, MBC, and tune. I would expect with the added mods listed you would definatly be in the northern region of that. So cams for 350? Probably not. 400? depends on your goals and the route you take.

Yeah you will definitely need bigger Injectors to run e85, even on stock turbo, the 1200's should be good, I'm running FIC 1250's

My number seem low but its the dyno, virtual mustang dyno im at 400 whp, virtual dynojet im even higher, heartbreaking mustang dyno sits me at 340? Who know which one is more accurate.
