Exclamation Engine Harness Differences or Wiring Gurus

So I'm finally fed up, I've completely had it.. This is the very last thing on this car I've been trying to fix forever and can't seem to figure it out. The car is very close to a point where I'm finally happy with all the changes and this completely kills my mood every time.

I have a CEL for a P0603 (Eprom Malfunction) or KAM (Keep Alive Memory) since I've bought the car, I've done quite a few things (swapping the ECU etc), The harness was hacked for a battery relocation and was poorly done. I HATE electrical. I've decided to change the whole harness and use an Evo X oem battery relocation setup in the bay, I guess if it doesn't work at least the hacked relocation setup will be fixed.

If it matters I'll be getting rid of ACD and the ABS is deleted. Car is SSL so has HID's and is an 05'

1.)Is the headlight wiring built into the harness? (If so I'd need a harness from an HID car)

2.)Would getting a harness without ACD or ABS effect anything?

3.)Is there anything different about an MR harness (6 speed car) over the 5 speeds?

4.)Would changing the harness effect which ROM to use in the ECU?

If this ever gets fixed and you helped, I'll be forever in your debt.. and may even PayPal you some money, that's how fed up of it I am.

just make the easy choice and find an 05 SSL harness to buy

if you don't like electrical, you should be purchasing a drop-in replacement

I agree with you for the most part but a lot of places don't list or know if they took the harness from a car with HID's hence some of these questions so I know exactly what I can look for

1. Headlight harness is 100% different harness from the engine function harness. The headlight harness includes the larger of the two fuse boxs in the engine bay and runs through the driver fender into the cab and contains 3 of those white connectors you'll see if you remove the driver side kick panel.

2. If your removing the ACD and ABS I dont know if that will throw a check engine light (I assume it will), but if it were me I'd just buy a harness using your VIN number to get the correct one, and just dont plug in the ACD and ABS connectors. If you can turn off the ACD and ABS functions in the ECU using EcuFlash or something to shut off any related check engine lights, then no, using a harness that is set up to NOT have either of those functions will not cause any issues.

3. The transmission plug/sensors are located with the engine control harness that passes through the firewall on the passenger side and has nothing what so ever to do with the headlight harness.

4. Changing the harness will have no effect what so ever on the ROM in the car. As I mentioned earlier, if you remove the ACD and ABS it might throw some sort of check engine light, but if you remove the ACD and ABS by simply using the harness you have and just unplugging those items or buying a completly different harness that does not include the ACD or ABS provisions... either way it does not matter.

Too bad you dont have a IX, I have plenty of spare harness's laying around I could give/sell cheap to you to try and see if it would fix it. Hunt around on Ebay for harness's, there are a ton of high quality ones for sale. I've bought a bunch for my IX from a company called TAE Used Auto Parts. They have a ton of nice Evo stuff... not all hacked apart and damaged... damn near brand new.

That's awesome to know, that opens the possibilities up, that was probably my most important question.

Hopefully someone can chime in on this, would be good to know if the non ABS/ACD harnesses take care of it or if they can be disabled. At the moment I have the pins jumped on the ABS plug to remove the light.

So an MR harness CAN'T be used on a 5 speed? That was actually the harness I had my eye on.. looks like new

Good info.

Have quite a few tabs open for them, as soon as I got solid answers I'll be purchasing

If your refering to the engine control harness I cant say I'm 100% sure on this. I dont know if there is a difference in the sensors on the MR 6sp versus the regular 5sp. I believe the two sensors in the trannys are speed and temp? If theyre the same exact sensor, then I'd say you can swap between the two. Someone else with expirence with the sensors themselves would have to chime in. I've only delt with the 5sp in my GSR.

I just threw a new complete engine harness in my IX and it was off a MR. My car is not the MR (gt ssl) and it worked fine. There is a plug on the main engine harness directly below the battery tray. This plugs into the trans harness plug and it is the same regardless of if it is a 5 speed or a 6 speed. The difference in the trans harness is exactly that. It's different once it branches off from the engine harness at that connection point and plugs into the trans.

Just throwing this info out there, not sure if makes a difference one way or another in your decison making... but the ACD plugs are included in the engine control harness. I know you had mentioned removing the ACD, ont know if you are after both or just one of the harness's.
