MAS honecomb mesh?

Is it a big problem if couple of cells got damaged?

I was taking my stock box off and 3 screws worked just fine but one wouldn't come off (I followed the evomoto procedure) so I actually had to use the french key and a whole lot of torque to get it off. While doing it the french key slipped and hit the mesh
Few cells got damaged. Should I be getting a new MAS?
I haven't reconnected anything yet without knowing what kind of consequence it could leave.
Thx

Yeah, there's always one bolt that wants to stay! I don't think that a few damaged cells would be too much to worry about...I thought about the same thing when I installed my aftermarket intake, but I read somewhere that we shouldn't worry. Good Luck!

How's your knuckles feel? That MAS is a bi%*$!!!!

MAS is a ***** yeah, heh, and that one screw wouldn't come off for nothing... I spend 15 seconds loosening the other 3 and 10mins for this one, and of course during the process the stock box also broke the 2 side plastic bolsters holding it. That's when the key slid and hit the mass $@#^!

Same happened to me. My vice grips slipped and hit 4 or so cells in the middle of the mesh. I took a tooth pick and straightened them back out as well as possible. No issues and the car still puffs black smoke under WOT, so I figure I'm ok

You can use an allen wrench to slide through the honeycombs to get them straigtened back out. I don't remember which size off-hand, but it works like a charm.

People have been tearing the mesh out on a variety of cars with no problems just for references.

DON'T TEAR OUT THE MESH!!! It is very inportant, the MAS reads air as it goes by, the Honey Comb Mesh is the to straiten out the turbulance in the air and make it easier for the mas to read.

If you remove it or SEVERLY DAMAGE it (you gusy are fine) your MAS misses counts, you run lean,

Use a tweezer to straighten out the cells .. the damaged cells actually give irregular readings on your MAF .. which is dependent on the frequency generated when the air flow thru the mesh .. if you log the MAF sensor .. then you'll see the fluctuations ..

Oh .. umiami80 is rite .. remove the mesh and you remove the frequency generator .. your car will not be able to idle, you'll get CEL lite .. and when you boost .. your car will stumble and get alot of black puffs coming out .. very scary .. like you broke something .. .. go figure how I found out ..

I just wanted to clarify...
YES, the MAS is there for a reason and it should be kept there unless you severly damage it. But, some cars work fine without the honeycomb in...it's been done. Check out DSMTalk and LS1 forums... I'm not advocating you take it out...
