Building a motor

Hey everyone, I tried looking around but had trouble finding the answers I was looking for. Anyways, I'm looking to start building a motor (bottom end) for my car which currently has a mostly stock evo 9 block (it has head studs & rod bolts, that's it).

Anyways, I was wondering what your opinion on the best bottom end would be? I want to make in the 500s as right now I'm at 453whp on a mustand dyno. Would you stick with 2.0, go to 2.3 stroker or maybe go to the 2.4 eclipse motor? I want the car to be "reliable" like it is now. It's been daily driven for 8-10 months on these tune. I've heard that the higher litter motors create a lot more vibration and can cause a lot of issues?

Also, what rods/pistons would you run? My friend is getting his block built right now, and he went with Manley "Turbo Tuff" rods which required a lot of grinding to get them to fit, but if they're the best for the power range then I guess it's worth it. He is also using Ross pistons, not sure what kind. Opinions on that? I'm not sure what else you would need to upgrade to have a "built" block but brands and such would be amazing.

Thanks for the help!

It really comes down to what you do with your motor, Where you want your power ect

Read this is will give you some great infomation

If i was you i would be looking at the top shops and buying one of there rebuild / stroker kits or just send it to them for the build.

Have fun

Well that definitely helped. Thanks! I will probably have it built here because there are some really good shops here, who have done a lot of evo motors and I don't have to pay for shipping, etc etc.

Anyways, these are the two I decided I liked from the link provided:

the only thing is it doesn't really say anything about what internals it's using... Again, thanks for the help.

I prefer a 2.3L due to the torque that 2.0s just don't make.

I am getting my buschur 2.3 back in a few days. I cant wait to get the new motor. I went with a 2,3 because I still drive the car on the street manily, so the extra displacement will help spool the larger turbo for the street.

Doing a 2.3, you keep the 4g63 block as well! Not saying there is anything wrong with the 4g64, but there are some cons. Getting a water pump that works, sketchy headgasket choices and the timing ordeal. Its been done and can be done without issues, but I just prefer the 4g63 block, so there is no questions on what works best.

I went with Buschur, because, most of the fastest evos out there run Buschur motors, so hes doing something right!

Tis true but again OP what are you intending on doing with the car?

Pretty much what the BR 2.3 motor described haha. Mostly driven (not really daily anymore) but during the summer probably like twice a month it'll see track time (drag racing & auto x mainly).

tsidrift1 or anyone else with first-hand experience,

Can you comment on the smoothness and street characteristics of the 2.3L? Also did you go with the standard 2.3 or the 2.3RPM (Manley crank and LR).

I'm about to pick up the 2.3RPM and use it on the street mainly. But I want it to be smooth and streetable. Enough that the wife will want to ride in it...unlike the GSX
