3" Catback/Silencer Effectiveness

I have a 3" Helix catback that I'm installing later this week. I'm looking at the optional silencer that came with it and noticing how small the outlet is. It reduces the tip from 4" to 1.5". Likely this will definately quiet down the noise but i'm concerned. Will this make performance less than stock when installed and will it be hard on the engine? Bare with my question as I never had an exhaust like this before. What are your experiences with optional silencers?

Here's a snapshot of the silencer that goes in the muffler for the Helix.

if you have the silencer in, you prob wont be worrying about performance. have you heard evo's with exhausts? even the RFL is half as loud as my wrx with an hks exhaust. they are so quiet you dont even need a silencer....you'll see

It doesn't really matter how loud a car is as long as it has power.

I don't know how your exhaust is, but the RS-R exmag GT ll with the silencer in lost about 3hp on the dyno versus without it. This was in some mag. Power pages or something can't remember. So I don't think you'd lose more than 3-5hp with it in. Not a big deal IMO. You can't even feel that kind of a difference.

Speaking from experience the silencers really suck! You'll sound like an old Pontiac as you hear the exhaust wooooosh out the back...sounds really dumb. You'll also completely choke off the exhaust from about 4500rpm on up and any time you go to WOT. Silencers are a Mickey Mouse way of "fixing" an exhaust that doesnt have to be loud in the first place. I tried a 5Zigen for about 4 weeks and hated it. Don't let the little boys with fresh ear drums tell you the average 3" exhaust will be quiet. Also don't let them tell you you're gonna lose only 3-5hp...total hogwash. Plus think about it...you're driving around with this plug up your azz and someone wants to drop the hammer on you...what are you gonna do? Yell for them to stop while you remove the stupid plug?

Thanks for the input. We'll see what happens when put this exhaust on.
