Oil overfill

I changed the oil yesterday in my evo 9 and I put about 4.5 quarts in let it run for a little then let it sit for a while then checked the oil level again and it looked a little low so I added just a little more. Then I check it again today with out it being started and now its a little over the top notch mark (between 2 marks indicates good oil level) so I don't know what to do. Should I open the drain plug and drain a little? If I do this will I mess up the crush washer? Help please Thanks.

In order to replace the crush washer id have to take the entire oil plug out which would drain it all.

How much overfilled is it? If ~5mm or less above the top notch I wouldn't even both. Also I've never replaced my crush washer, so not necessary IMO.

Yeah when I had a WRX I never replaced the crush washer. People seem to make a bigger deal about it with Evo's so I do. And yeah its definetly less than 5mm above the top notch. but still over

I purposely run a 1/2qt over full all the time. Mine is 6mm over since Up have a 4G64 block which is taller and use the stock dipstick still mounted to the intake Manifold. No problem ever.

check the level after the motor is fully up to temp-10-15 drive. Let it sit for 5 min then check the dip stick. It will raise when warm, so make sure its not crazy high when hot.

Less than 1/2 quart over is fine. After running the car pull the dipstick and make sure there are no bubbles in the oil. As long as the oil in the pan is not being aerated by the crank you should be fine.

Would there be bubbles on the dip stick itself?

Too funny. I've been running a whole quart over spec in my track car without issue in 100 degree temps on track without issue.

I also have used the same crush washer for 51k miles.
