I believe the "porting" option refers to the port work at the turbo collector. The runners are all port matched to match the exhaust manifold gasket and cylinder head ports. That's what I understand at least.

Just an update for anyone who gets the bolt kit along with their manifold. The bolt kit comes with 8 washers. I called FP to find out why and I was told that each bolt and the two nuts are supposed to have double-stacked washers underneath them.

Torque spec is OEM specs - 47 Ft-Lbs for both the bolts and nuts.

Hope this helps someone.

This is obvious to us DSM owners, for those new to the Mitsubishi scene :

The washers are 'cupped' on one side and have 2 dots on the other, the washers should be installed stacked together with the cupped side facing each other and the dots out.

What's the reasoning behind the washers? Please excuse me if I missed the answer in a previous post.

John-
Absolutely right. After owning a DSM 11 years you would think I knew that - wrong.

To clear any confusion, the bottom washer goes dots-down and the top washer goes dots-up.

They create a "spring" in a sense. If you place them together like they are supposed to go, with the concave sides together, they create a shape kinda like this: ()

When the exhaust heats up, expands and starts putting stress on the bolts, the washers will act like a spring and keep the bolt from stretching.

Looking back on it this is probably the #1 reason people have turbo bolts loosen up on their own, or snap when you take a 20 yr. old 14B off a DSM. Haha.

Just a last note for everyone. My manifold had a little issue where I was unable to fit any kind of wrench or socket on either nut. I was going to use the old 6-point DSM nuts instead of the ARPs so that I could get an open-end wrench on it. I called FP to let them know, and after 3 conversations on the phone it was determined that some of the casts aren't "perfect" and the clearance to allow a tool to be used on the nuts was off a little.

I would have either had to just use one washer, or take a grinder to the manifold. Even using one washer, I was still unable to get a wrench on one of the nuts. Well, I wanted to do it right...

Problem Solved.

Manifold setup looks good.

That would kind of suck if you had it coated first and then had to grind it.

Mine is on the way, it should be here by Monday, on the invoice it says 21 out of 20, so it looks like they sold more than 20 at the introduction price!

A bit 'after the fact', but perhaps something like this may have worked, or maybe helpful for anyone else that comes across this problem:

So since FP was informed of the fitment issue will they be grinding these down for us before shipping them out???

Man, I would be pissed if I paid FP to have my manifold coated before shipping & I received it and had to take a grinder to the manifold in those spots.
