ACD relay
ACD relay
Can anyone tell me which relay on the firewall is for the ACD? I'm trying to trouble shoot right now. My pump isn't turning on period so I'm trying to rule out electronics before declaring it a bad pump. Thanks
I've never heard of the relay going bad, whereas it's common for the pump to fail. I would start by troubleshooting at the pump first. Speaking from firsthand experience btw. It's not like it's hard to hardwire the pump either.
There is two relays behind the intake manifold. One on the left is the ACD relay. It's not the relay. I was hoping it's the relay too. There are two fuses on top of the positive battery terminal. I bet you they are good too. Turn ignition on (don't start car), than press gas pedal down, and wait a few seconds. You will hear the relay click. It starts to send power to the pump. If the pump is not whining its a seized electric motor. (Pump is not rebuildable.) 30 Seconds after relay clicks you get the famous 3 lights. You should run + and - directly from batery to pump, its very easy (well I had to take my bumper off). OR using a multimeter see if when the relay clicks you get voltage at the pump. Let me know how you do, I am curious because my pump is seized
The problem is that the 3 lights coming on is VERY inconsistent. Sometimes it comes in 30 seconds, sometimes it comes on in 30 minutes. 70% of the time is comes on fairly fast but the actually time is never the same. The relay is clicking (placed finger on it when ACC on and gas pedal held down), but the pump is not whining. Mitsubishi couldn't turn it on with their computer either. I tried to bleed it, thinking that might be it, but since the pump wouldn't come on, it didn't pressurize in order to bleed it. The pump doesn't look corroded. All of this started after my car was sitting for 7 months while I was deployed. Before then, it worked perfectly fine.

My pump looks very clean too, but the el motor wont turn. If the relay clicks than the motor gets power. I hope we can find a way to fix the burned motors, maybe rewiring the motor. We need to find someone who can fix electric motors. I know you can rewire it.
This might help too: ACD PUMP 3520A041 $1845.46 (EVO IX)
I don't know if it's worth it. I can get a Evo RS center diff installed for 800. It's a mechanical limited slip diff. Lighter. Car will still go sideways no problems
