Spool and Power difference 6262 .63 vs. .82

I have a 10.5:1 2.4 liter with a 6262. My power goals are modest for the setup at 600whp at 30psi. I have been basically achieving that without even trying. Now I was wondering if the .63 would hurt power a lot at that level and if it would improve spool up a noticeable amount?

I have the 4 bolt T31 housing for reference. It should flow better than the Ford 5 bolt housing if I recall correctly.

Ive heard with that turbo size there is no point in going smaller then .82 and the spool would be about the same maybe 100-200 rpm different.

at 10.5 a regular 35r would make 600whp without trying. spool about 1000 rpm faster

I think 1000rpm sooner is quite a generous estimate. My 20G only spooled 1500rpm faster than the 62 with a stock turbine wheel. I made a post showing the difference in spool between the 20G and 62. Take a look.

Eventually I will be looking to make more power which is why the 62 is on here. I was shooting for 700 but it is so fast as is I am satisfied for now. Maybe add a little more bottom if I can.

Heard there's no point in using smaller than .83ar on a t3 set up

The whole ar thing is more for torque too however seen a .63ar 2.4 making 650 torque.

If using the .63 will help to make tq at a lower rpm while still making my goal power of ~600whp @30psi then that is the goal. If I gained 400-500rpm spool that would be a SUPER CHEAP upgrade vs selling my current setup and buying an FP Black and still have the headroom if I decide to push my setup beyond what a .63 is capable of.

I am running a .63 on a 3586. I think it makes tons of sense to toss a smaller hotside on. However expect your gains in spool to be about 300-500rpm. On my car I get to 20psi in 3rd gear at 4800, and in 4th gear 4300-4400.

So if you are not trying to spin your motor to 10k, and you are not trying to make 800hp, then I would say a smaller hotside makes tons of sense. Best part is if you want to make more power you can just toss on a larger hotside and go.

You prolly would gain 400rpm spool, maybe more.

A friend made 670hp on the motor with a journal .63 6262 and had 1.7bar at 3200 on a 2.5 BMW

I may have to try it. 400-500 rpm would be pretty awesome.

I made 680 @ 36psi on my old 6262 (non cea) with the .63 hotside. That was on Q16. On E-85 at 24psi it produced 550 and on 93 @ 27psi it made 505. I never tried a .82, but I would estimate that the .63 starts to be outmatched around the 640-650 mark.
