I bought a cheap ebay oil cooler, Tilton diff pump and had a hydraulic shop make me special adapters that fit instead of gearbox plugs and connect to hydraulic hose while maintaining maximum internal ID..

My cooler fits in front of the driver side front wheel (our evos have the ACD pump in the rear)... will post the install pics later as I am still playing with the ducting (my IC hoses go trough there too.. )

From what I saw in the Evo 9 service manual, the European 6-speed Evos have a transmission oil temperature sensor. Have you tried monitoring it?

no, but I will log the transmission temps on the dyno before I take the stock turbo off and swap it for a fp71 hta..... just so that we can compare....

I did have a 6spd failure, however it is hard to tell why... The car was tracked a lot, but at the moment of failure it was a simple 4th gear pull at something like 5000 rpm.. and to me it did not look like the gear broke first but rather the outer large ring that is moved by the shifting fork...

On the other had it could have had temp damage from before or maybe it was just a case of not falling 100% in gear..

Shift sleeve? That's basically why I chose to send my trans to shep. Mine was black and blue..

I made 530hp and 420tq before my 4th gear finally chipped a tooth.

Going to to a warning light or gauge?

What parts are involved to put that in a USDM car? Part #'s?

The input on the ECU for tranny temp on EU Evos is used for fuel tank temperature on US Evos, so its not a straightforward parts addition.

I assume that the ECU is different between USDM and EDM cars as well - more than just programming. Curious though what the both the fuel temp triggers and what the transmission temp triggers in the respective ECU's. CEL? Fuel trim? What else?

Interesting the emphasis on fuel temp on US cars and transmission temp on European cars. I guess that may reflect hot desert climate in the interior of the US vs Autobahn and Nurburgring running that may be hard on trans temp.

Now hw about the hardware on the transmission ... are US transmissions machined to take the sending unit? If so this would make it easy to run a sender to a gauge in the car or even a warning light ....

Unless you are road racing and you have to stay out there to finish your race that would be good enough ... for track days you just come in and go out again once the trans has cooled and/or change your fluid if you have really cooked it.

Anyway, would be keen on any additional info you have or can dig up.

.

the sender unit is located in the fill plug.... so I think it is an easy solution to machine a similar piece and run a temp sender from there...
On EUDM cars it is connected to a warning light on the dash.... I have NEVER seen it go on..

I sure can... but shipping them from overseas might be a tad expensive...
I suggest locating your local hydraulic shop and asking them.. I used the same shop that produces all the hydraulic fittings for the acd pump overhaul kits I make and this was an easy job for them.

Normally, you can combine a few adapters that are made by the likes of Earls, or Aeroquip, and get the same result, but I think this has larger ID and is more elegant solution..

Anyway, if people are interested I can make them, no problem..

Thanks for the info. I guess should try to figure out ECU differences.

I am already running a metric EUDM gauge cluster in my USDM car. Curious which light it is?

Encouraging that the light hasn't gone on on yours yet.

I would be interested in a trans cooler coming back on the market. I do agree the shipping might be a big factor

yeah, but the trans did go

as for the warning light... there are two lights... engine temp and transmission temp warning lights.. those are located in the part of the cluster where it says LANCER
