bought a "rebuilt" 5 speed, what to inspect before install?

Bought a 5 speed that supposedly has 100 miles on a shep trans rebuild. After receiving it, I contacted shep to determine what (if anything) was done to it. They sent me some pics and explanation of their markings and I cant find anything like it on the case.

Question is what would you inspect and change out before dropping it in? In the back of my head, I know I need to split it apart and at least look it over. Maybe also check clearances while in there. This is all in the comfort of my single digit garage on jack stands, so Id rather do it once and be done. But the whole point was that it was supposed to be rebuilt.... uggh.

Soo... Isn't this something you should have asked before you purchased it to inspect it? Did the seller have proof that it had work done? Receipt?

Hopefully you didnt pay more then $900 for it.

I would probably be knocking on the door of whoever you purchased it from.

Well you can install it and see if it shifts ok. You can also send it to shep, TRE, or Jacks trans and have them bench test it. They spin it and run through the gears. At least Jacks used to. Not sure if they still do but if you called one of them you will get more info.

If you know how to rebuild it, you can order the kit from one of the above shops.

IMO, I would be going back to the person you purchased it from. Is the trans spotless as if it was recently rebuilt?
