Built 2.0 or BR 2.3RPM ?

Hello fellow evom members,
So for a while now, I've been very fickle with which route to take as far as my build goes. So to possibly finally have a build set in stone, I wanted to ask all of you to see what you guys and gals think. As far as power goals go, I definitely know that I want 500whp. The purpose of this build is to have a fun street evo. I don't plan on dragging it nor auto-x. Occasional spirited driving is all.

Built 2.0
So with this route, I wanted to go with an FP Green and have methanol injection to reach my power goals. Full bolt ons of course and all the supporting mods. It seems ideal for my power goals.

BR 2.3RPM
With this route, I hear it adds a great experience when the purpose is to just street your car. I don't plan on revving high out, but the reason I didn't mention the BR's standard 2.3 is because the shop I go to keeps a 2.3RPM on hand so that it prevents downtime. The plan was to still keep a fun street evo, without sacrificing too much spool. I was planning on going with a PTE 5858 with this route. However, I feel like if I went this route, I'm not utilizing it's full potential of the motor to what it can do, but I guess that can apply for a built 2.0 as well seeing that they are both very capable builds. I also have several additonal concerns when going with the stroker motors. What's the lifespan on the 2.3RPM? How's the reliability?.. and I'm guessing that there will be a bit of oil consumption as well.

Looking forward to getting some good feedback! Especially to those of you with built 2.0's and the 2.3's !!

I absolutely love my BR 2.3RPM and would buy it again in a heartbeat! Im positive you will love it too. The fact that you want a fun STREET car, makes the 2.3 even more of the right choice for you. I have no oil consumption at all. Engine is as bullet proof as they come. On pump gas I am sitting at the 500 WHP (mustang) with a conservative tune. So far I have 10k on the build. Engine is fantastic in the fact that it is very responsive off boost. Much much more than the stock 2.0. It is an absolute joy to dd even with my HTA3586 (which may be small to many but it is still a decent size turbo.) Just because you are not pushing the motor to its deepest potential does not mean that it is not working in your favor at lower power and rpm levels. Of course this is just my opinion and advice. All in all you really cant go wrong with either build

Good luck with your build and if you have any questions feel free to pm me or post it on here

Dont know if you read it, but its worth a quick look/read:

Lol, Well I see that definitely you are leaning me towards the BR 2.3RPM I do have a question actually, when does the 3586 start to spool? and when do you hit full boost?

I have a BR 2.3 with A DBB Green and it spools really fast, full boost by 3700. It is a great setup for low end and torque. No need for the RPM2.3 since you'll only be revving to 7500 or so but hey it can't hurt!

This thread should help you out:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...omparison.html

Remember that spool has everything to do with the complete picture of mods that you have and how well they work together. Also note that E85 has a big effect on spool.

It starts to spool when you mash the pedal lol
All jks aside here is some approximate #s from my build
3000rpm 5 psi
3500rpm 8 psi
4000rpm 12 psi
4500rpm 22 psi
5000rpm 29 psi (full boost)
Not sure exactly at what rpm my car begins to build boost. This was a 3rd gear pull.

Hope this helps

This is the old setup, supposedly it was a conservative tune and they were running out of fuel on E85.
Mods were:
BR 2.3
BR stage 3 head
FP DBB green
Kelford 272s
BR ported IM
BR ported TB
Ported EM
BR 3" V-band exhaust
FIC 1450s
Walbro 400

Here are the #s
91 octane

E85

It does help and I appreciate it. Does the 3586 feel laggy at all?

Unless you drag race I would go 2.3RPM

I changed a lot of things and I was shooting for 475+whp on 93 octane but that is with every supporting mod you could think of. I just sold the green and I am going to go with a CBRD BBK-BB-B.

I see. Ever thought about venturing out of the stock frame turbos? Just curious. Well I'm pretty much sold on the 2.3RPM.. even from the beginning before I made this thread. You guys are just validating that even more.

I have thought about it. I just spent a lot of money on a Toxic Fab manifold w/billet collector for stock frame turbo and Toxic Fab custom tubular 02 housing so I am staying stock frame. 500+whp is plenty for what I am looking to do. It is a street car that will see a few track days and maybe a pass or 2 down the quarter so I don't need big numbers.
I have had thoughts about going with an EFR turbo since I am spending about the same $$$$, but I like the characteristics of the stock frame smaller turbos better, I want as minimal lag as possible. Plus CBRD says they have never had one of their BB turbos fail!
If I was going with an FP red or black I would have just gone EFR.

With how responsive the engine is, it really doesn't seem laggy at all. I mean do not get me wrong it does have minor lag but nothing crazy. When I do want "insta-spool" I drop a gear and **** gets nutty INSTANTLY. Also note that the car gets moving extremely quick when in 1st and 2nd (not talking about when launched) Hard to imagine quicker spool because the revs fly by.

Its a HTA 3586 TS set up right now. But I will be switching to a SS set-up this season to fully test TS vs SS. I want to know the truth first hand to how much power/spool difference is between the two. Time will tell

I see. Anything that is Toxicfab is an art of work though. Yeah I too, think I'll be content with 500whp, but I'm not there yet, so I wouldn't know. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy your new turbo.
