Perrin vs B&B vs Buschur

So I read through all 23 pages of the exhaust thread and have narrowed my choices down to three turbo back systems (all with hi-flow cats): Perrin, B&B, and the Buschur w/Manaflow. My first criteria is decibel level and the second is hp potential.

Judging from what I've read & heard, I'd have to say that the quietest is the Perrin followed closely by the B&B and then the Buschur w/Mangaflow. The Buschur unit appears to make the most power, then Perrin and then B&B.

Anyone with first hand experience with any of the above exhausts care to comment on my assumptions? Are there any other turbo-back exhausts out there that are quiter than any of the above but have as much or more hp potential?

-Mike

I'm in the same boat you are. However, my two choices are Buschur w/ the magnaflow and B&B. I think I'm probably going to go with the B&B as I had it on my A4 and loved it. Sounded great, but wasn't too loud. Build quality and fit were perfect as well. Hopefully the same will apply to the Evo exhaust they produce as well.

I have a full HKS system, but I was at the shop when they were fitting a B&B down pipe with an HKS Carbon/ Ti catback.

Observations - (1) Most important, the B&B would not fit! It caused the catback to rub the drive shaft under certain conditions. After almost 1.5 hours trying to get the thing to fit and driving it around the block, the shop gave up. They then put on an HKS and the fit was perfect. I'm not sure if the guy was ever able to get his money back (he did not order from B&B directly).

(2) The B&B was noticably louder than the HKS with the same catback. I know, not what you want compared, but I thought you might find value anyway.

I've go the B&B and if I had to do it again I'd probaby opt for something different. Sure it sounds great and mine fit perfect but it lacks good looks and the whole JDM appeal thing. For stealth purposes it rocks but for show it doesn't. I was at the Evo-NY meet on sunday with about 27 other evo's. I was the only one with the B&B turbo-back and I felt like my exhaust was equivilant to a small ***** or something. Everyone else were huge and just as loud or even quiter but looked SOOO sick while mine, does it job and well, looked kinda weak. Maybe its just mind games

Ha ha! I like that analogy! I didn't think of it before but I guess I'm after that stealth look. As someone said here recently, anyone can make a loud exhaust. When it comes down to it, I'm looking for a somewhat quiet exhaust that doesn't give up too much power. The appearance doesn't really matter to me though something like a rolled tip might score a bonus point or two.

Buschur's MagnaFlow has a rolled tip. And it is VERY easy to install. Sound is also a quiet, but has a deep, throaty sound in the upper RPM's, but nothing you can hear really if something noisy is around you (ricer, etc.).

They have my vote.

I have the buschur with high flow cat. I like it a lot and the appearance is near stock (which is what i want).

as far as hp gains compared to eachother...guys, we're talking about pipes here. If you get a system that is 3 inch with manderal bends, they are all going to make pretty much the same hp figures regardless of the brand. Provided the exaust path is relatively straight (which pretty much all of them are), we're talking about the same thing from all three brands with a different muffler.

If you still choose to ponder over this, pick the one that looks the best to you cause you're going to get the same results from each one providing they all fit properly.

and if you start upgrading with more parts, the type of exaust you have will make less and less of a difference as the other performance parts you ad to your car will be the one's affecting the power much more than the exaust. the exaust is there pretty much to let the car breathe, not to make massave power gains.

just my .02

I also have the 3" turboback Buschur but with the JDM exhaust. It's definitely the loudest of all the Evos who I've met up with since install (about 20). But on the dyno sunday I got 25whp over stock with that as the only mod, no tuning yet. It's not too loud for me, but it's a little loud for my wife. Ultor has the same thing but with the magnaflow, and honestly, there's not a lot of difference in sound...

Bottom line: Big gains + big noise = probably not the one that YOU seem to want. But I love it!

25 whp over stock. That's just awesome. For the price, Buschur seems like one I'm going to go with.
