What is the best clutch recommendtation for my setup
Hey guys,
So Ive got an Evo 7 making about close to 400hp, 440nm of torque..
I had a carbonetic single blade push style installed same time last year,
now after 5 or so drag outings the clutch is now slipping and locking out...
What clutch would you recommend for my application of few drag outing, so plenty of launches, few circuit track days and overall street use aswell.
Im thinking of the exedy twin but ive heard they dont last very long, if constantly launching,
also considering the ORC 559.... Or maybe something different like the quartermaster or clutch masters range? anyone had any experience they could give us some advice and recommendation?
Driveability and noise isnt that much of an issue, i just want a clutch that can take a beating without slipping...

If nothing failed other than the clutch, id say it did its job well. Getting a stronger clutch will just Insure that you'll be replacing other drivetrain components instead.

People seem to be happy with the exedy twin / triple, including me. Either that or the QM. My twin exedy has been launched many times and I have yet to complain.
I had the exedy twin HD in my last evo and I loved it. It was a great clutch for daily and light drag use. I never experienced lockout with the twin. It shifted perfectly if I did my part and launching was a dream. I just had the triple installed in my new evo. I hope it will be just as nice as the twin was.

for your setup a competetion stage 2 would do you well if you want to stay single disc, but for track use I would suggest if you're launching to get a 4 puck. if you want to go twin disc go with a qm
I ran the same carbonetics clutch it didnt last long and had lock out problem, im running a comp stage 4 for my dd its a 6 puck sprung i wouldnt go to a 4 puck if its ur dd, ive heard the qm clutches wear out quickly if you drive on the street

How long has the comp stage lasted ? and how does the pedal/engagement feel.... also what power level are you at?

Im at 400whp ive had the clutch for 15k and going strong. The engagement is a little rough i would not want anything stiffer for a dd clutch usually rev up to about 2000rpm for a smooth take off from a stop
I done about 150-200 launches on the carbonetic clutch including 5 drag days before it **** itself.
Wow, what wonderful user input.... not!

200 launches from any clutch is VERY good. i think you are expecting too much. a ton of friction material is lost during a launch. I have seen 1700hp cars at the track that drop the trans and work on the clutch plates after every other pass. in short the carbonetic was a great clutch, you just dont realize it.
