Evo IX OEM BOV
Evo IX OEM BOV
Hey guys. I had the HKS SSQV BOV on my IX for the past 7-8 years and finally decided to go back to OEM since I still had it laying around for so many years and just getting tired of the noise. Anyways, after reinstalling the OEM BOV, I went for a drive and there is literally no noise coming from the BOV, or at least I don't hear it when I let off the gas. Now I know that it is not supposed to make noise like the SSQV, but I could have sworn that the stock BOV made a very slight amount of noise when I had it on years ago, but now it's just nothing. Is there any way to tell if the BOV is working properly or not? I'm afraid that it isn't working right and something could go wrong. Maybe I just got so used to the SSQV noise? I've seen videos of other OEM IX BOV's and there is still that slight amount of "swoosh" sound coming from it. Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks!

With the throttle cable. Put your hand in front of the valve. Let off throttle.
Just test this and don't feel any air pushing out, but is that even supposed to happen when the air should be recirculated anyways? I would assume if I can feel air leaking out, then that's not a good thing, or maybe I'm wrong?

I have seen a very few amount of pics with it being upright but when I tried that, I can't see how that is possible because the bov is touching the radiator hose, which I can't see it being good either with all that excessive heat resting on top of the bov. Do you happen to have pics of how it should be sitting? If it was installed incorrectly, what's the worse that could happen?

If the stock BOV is open, you could take it off and blow through it. If you have a properly sized rubber hose and an air pump, you could bench test it with air pressure. There's really not much else you can do other than swap to another stock BOV to compare. Make sure your vacuum supply line is still intact, of course, but that's it, man.

You can always run your aftermarket valve in the mean time while you check your stocker. I know I still get a little whoosh when off throttle after boosting. I use the evo 9 recirc valve. I tested mine before I installed it, and it held about 12psi without bleeding at all. My original 8 valve leaked instantly, but it was 90,000 miles old! I definitely don't like all the sound, either, so I prefer the stock style recirculation. If you have the proper equipment, you can pressurize the valve and then supply vacuum to see if it will activate properly. Good luck.
