i took it back out, with emanage settings to 0. and even only running 16 psi it is making the ticking noise, so, im thinking it might not be detonation ping. it only does it full throttle, partial throttle like 75% will not do it. it starts at about 3500 rpms and goes to red line under wot. its faint, and almost sounds like its coming from drivers side near dash. i have no idea what it is. but its anoying. im ganna ask to borrow my freinds wideband on sunday when we install the cams. i wonder if its a tiny exhaust leak from the new o2 bung instlled. i dunno, anyone know if its possible to detonate on the stock ecu settings and only 16 psi... i did not hear it at 11 psi.
just to reply, you cannot read plugs unless you pull them immediately after a run, because the plugs will clean themselves, (if they dont they will foul quickly)
Unsure of your actual problem though, the ecu should be killing the timing if it knocks enough, no?

Hmmm... come to think of it.. coming from driver side dash.. the emanage controls the boost controller solenoid rite? Sounds like the solenoid when its limiting boost... do u hear it at 20psi above too? If not... then it may be the solenoid... dont think its detonation.. so dont worry about it.... get your friend to check the boost controller solenoid.. sounds to me that could be the culprit..

angel of mercy, i think your right on that one, when i turned the boost controller off, it stopped making the noise. ive been having troubles with it lately... i bet it going out or something, im ganna have it check out. thanks for your help.
If you are running lean, you will get detonation at higher boost pressures. Just because you turned off your EBC and lowered the boost pressure, doesn't mean you aren't lean or detonating for that matter. You could have just lowered the boost enough for the car to handle the lean a/f mixture and pull enough timing to "deal" with it.
I would be VERY easy on your car until you get this figured out either way.

Did you feel any momentary/split-second hesitation or 'stumbling'?
