Transfer Case Replacement [MERGED]
on my third one car only has 10,000 miles now.....yeah i felt mitsu screwed up on this.......and now there trying to blame us for racing a car that was designed to race......sounds a little lame doesnt it.....
Guys and girls, don't expect that a replacement transfer case will hold, it won't. They are the same cases that are used to assemble your stock vehicle. The will continue to blow until Mitsu north america has a recall. There is no difference. And for those of you who think they can rebuild that MF, you can't because Mitsu north doesn't sell internals, only the complete case for about $2500. So plan on having to rip down your car and return it to bone stock every time you have an issue, there are no favorites, if it hasn't gone yet, it most likely will.

Is this similar to what you have experienced when your transfer cases went bad?
Groundchuck, congatulations, you're the new owner of a lemon EVO. Don't mod your car, take it back to your dealer, hold the mechanics hand, point to the transfer case, and let him know that this is the problem If he doesn't believe you, ask him to drain the tranfer oil, and then point out to him the metallic shimmer of the ground up gears mixed therein

I have had a whine/howl noise that happens at around 3K rpm in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. It occurs when the drivetrain is very lightly loaded (ex. casually cruising through town 45 mph in 4th gear, cruising on the highway 65-70 in 5th gear). I took it in once and the dealership could not find the issue. When I accelerate hard you don't hear the noise only when I am light on the throttle and only in the 3K - 3.3K rpm range.

yup your another victim.............. don't mod the evo because they will try and tell you that the mods are the cause.... i spent 4 hrs at the dealer argueing with them and told them they better get the Fing DM down there because i wasn't leaving till he showed up. I threaten them with my laywer and about 15mins after that they told me the DM Called and they are putting it on order because it is a problem with the Evo's
Transfer Case Replacement
Since I haven't had to replace one yet I had a question about the Evo transfer case and its reportedly bad design. When your transfer case goes like it has in many evos and you replace it, will the replacement one have a better design or are you putting in another $2k product thats gonna break in 10,000 miles?
I'm not sure how pervasive the problem is as I'm approaching 10K and zero problems. I started a poll to try and gauge the number of members who have actually had the transfer case replaced.
