Transfer Case Replacement [MERGED]
First off, you'll be putting the same crappy design back into your car, second, mitsu doesn't sell internals so you can't even build a better one. And at 11k my car ran like a top. At 11.1k my transfer case went, it doesn't start slow, it just happens. So if your car is good at 10k it could go bad the next time you run to the store to get milk and cookies, or condoms. There is a guy named john shepard that can build you a bulletproof one for about 1500 that's with your core and out of your pocket, I don't know wherehe gets parts from though.
Ducaticorse and Grod101, thanks for the info. I'll head back to the dealership and see they can investigate the transfer case.
FYI - I have about 14K miles on my car. No real mods to speak of. Not beat on either.

Sound of a bad transfer case...... https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=70082
Guys, I'm not hearing a horrible sound like the one in that clip, but I do get a not too loud, almost metallicy hum sound sometimes when downshifting to 3rd. I've read in other posts that this is normal on all evos and has something to do with it being all wheel drive. Is this the case, or is what I'm hearing the early stages of the transfer case issue?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I think it would be of interest if you guys who have had transfer case failures could post: 1) what is the manufacture date of your car? (it's on the plate on the driver's side door jamb); 2) on what date(s), approximately, did you have the cases replaced?
I'm curious to see if there's any info leading to a manufacture date past which the problems seem to have stopped, or past which the replacement cases seem to be holding up...

I hope I won't have to retract my previous statement. That doesn't sound good, ducati.
We'll see how it plays out; if Mitsu recalls them or there are only a few isolated incidents, I won't worry.
Otherwise, I may look to getting myself a new Cobra. Screw that.

Thats funny, I was thinking cobra earlier today. That or the new S4. I think the more people learn on this forum about the issue, the more people will know how to identify there bad cases, and the #'S will rise. There was a post somewhere on one of these threads about a guy that had his replaced by the dealer. The service manager acknowledged that it was an issue with the EVO and replaced it under warranty. The worst thing about this is the fact that almost everybody mods their evo, and if there case goes bad, they'll have to strip the car down to bring it in for warranty work, which sucks especially if they're running cams, downpipe etc. That's the issue I'm dealing with, and I'm kind of soured about this car right now.
Well.... I don't know, I'm figuring if mine goes it will be this summer. And I will just pay to have a bulletproof one built and install quaiffe differentials when there out. I like my Evo and I have had Zero problems so far. If something breaks from me slamming it around...I don't really care. I watch the muscle car guys blowing rearends and driveshafts...everyone has to pay to play.
