Transfer Case clunk

This is new to me, and i just want to make sure its the cold weather and not the TC going on me. It has never done this before.

This just happened at 15 degree weather and about 10" of snow.

I turn the car on, engine still slightly warm from a previous use, put it in reverse, i dont feel the car moving and i hear a loud clunk, i stop. Made sure ebrake was not engaged, put it in reverse and tried again, same clunk. I proced then to put it in first, slowly rev the engine and release the clutch, i heard the clunk but the car moved now. Once driving gear shifting is fine and car seemed to drive normally. "Snow" mode is also enabled.

Could this be the cold weather? Like i said, ive never experienced this before. Then again, i dont normally come to the snow or see this levels of snow.

Regards

was the ebrake set prior to trying to move and you released it? its possible the ebrake shoes froze to the drum...

Ebrake was set. As always.. Is this likely to happen more than the TC having issues when cold?

hard to diagnose over the net, but im thinking its the ebrake/ brakes making the noise from the cold/ snow on the rotors.
try to replicate it again.

yea, I'm willing to bet it was the ebrake. Gear oil doesn't freeze..
