Turbo Help/Decisions
Turbo Help/Decisions
Hello all!! I am going to start off by saying that I have never swapped a turbo before and I need help.
I currently have a evo 8 with a stock 8 turbo, stock mani, 8 hot side, ect... I am tuned on E85 @ ~28psi and the car made 320/320 on a mustang dyno.
My best 1/4 mile is 12.6 @ 113mph with a 1.68 60". (Are my numbers low?)
Mods are AMS TBE, All ETS 3" intercooler pipes, ETS IC, ETS intake, SparkTech Non CDI COP, ID 1000's, and a Walbro 255. (HKS 272's soon to come w/ beehive springs)
My goal is at least 400whp on a mustang. I am interested in upgrading my turbo to either a Evo 9 Turbo or an HTA71. So what I am asking is what WILL I need and possibly what SHOULD I get. Such as water lines, oil lines, gaskets, ect... Also should I stay E85 or switch back to 93?
Thanks, any advice is appreciated.

HTA71 and cams (gsc s1 or s2) should get you to 400whp mustang. I would skip the HKS, not super aggressive at all, and you definitely don't need to do valvesprings with them. FP sells the install kit to convert to a 9, you'll need a 10.5cm MHI hot side to work with the hta71 chra upgrade.
You'll also likely need bigger injectors, in 1200cc range, possibly an upgrade to the walbro 450lph fuel pump..

I have e8 with e9 turbo,E85 all bolt ons, crappy BC cams. Made 365/350 on mustang, ran 11.6@117mph .60' was like 1.8. Your 60' is good but you shouldshift faster. With set up you have right now I ran 12 flat@113. Each car is different but if you want 400+ on mustang probably you need HTA. I still gonna keep e9 turbo, just puting ported in/ex mani and s2's.i want flat 11 on stock e9 turbo.numbers don't play major role for me,times does lol. Good luck
P.s and yeah save money for kelfords or s2's. Don't waste your money and time.

HKS 272's you don't need valvesprings. GSC S1's do not require valve springs either, however they are a decent bit more capable than the HKS 272. GSC S2's should absolutely get upgraded springs, some guys get away with stock springs with the S2's, but it is not exactly recommended.
If you already have the HKS 272's, just toss them in with a new timing belt. Not worth it to take the loss on new, uninstalled, parts. They are a proven solid upgrade; not the absolute best option, but they are still a very good improvement over stock cams. If the shop you bought them from is gracious enough to exchange them for a different cam, I would personally do more of an upgrade to GSC s1's or S2's.
