Hey guys,

Left for a training mission for 3 months. Car was running fine before leaving in Jan. I come back in April and the car doesn't want to start. My wife drove the car once while I was gone and left it on a battery tender. Once I got home I tried to jump it with no luck. It cranks but will not turn over. I let it sit since I didn't want to bother with it until this past weekend.

I have pulled the feed line and cranked the car to verify I have fuel. Tested and verified I have spark. Verified that all my timing marks line up. Checked and tested all fuses.

The oil smells like gas and I think my spark plugs may be fouled. The spare set I have is for an 8 so I'm waiting for the right set. I honestly don't think that is going to solve the issue though for some reason. Because I have both spark and fuel it should NOT be the CPS, correct? I guess next on my list is CAS's.

Car is a 2006 with 34k on it and basic bolt ons. Stock ECU

 

if you have fuel sprk and compression (correct timing and nothing fried) then you should get combustion. When I run into this issue with a car I usually try ether to rule out fuel, new set of plugs which I see you are gonna try, if that fails go for compression test, I doubt that would be the issue but hey... you never know with these things. My money is gonna be on plugs or shoot maybe even a weak coil.

 

I would spray starting fluid.

 

^^^ Try that. That is what started my evo when i purchased it from the previous seller and it wouldn't start when i was checking the car out. Towed the car home, put in a new battery and sprayed some starting fluid. Car started up everytime ever since.

Check #1 10 amp fuse in fusebox under left side dash

 

#1 fuse is check engine light bulb

 

Starting fluid did nothing. Sprayed into turbo and TB with no luck. Also checked all the fuses already and everything checked out.

 

Is the gas in it good? Maybe drain it and put some fresh gas in there.

 

I'm pretty sure if the cam sensor or the mivec sensor was bad you wouldn't get spark.

 

Fuel pressure maybe? You might be getting flow at 0psi (when you pull the pipe off), but on the rail it might not be pressurizing... Therefore could be gunk settling on the fuel pump "sock" at the bottom of the tank, or the pump could have gone bad. Assuming it's an OEM pump though, or is it a Walbro or other aftermarket?

Does the car sound like it's going to catch, but never quite makes it - or does it just sound like the starter is turning everything but doesn't even attempt to start?

I would test fuel pressure if all else fails, although on an evo with stock fuel rail it's a pain! You can get an adaptor that will let you T in a tester between the FPR and rail (I got mine from FFTEC and installed a Shrader valve so I can test easier).

Also, as mentioned - gas can go bad, so drain it and change it just in case!
